GOLD STRIKE AT LUDLOW: Yesterday’s three bets included ARCTIC GOLD WON 11/4 – a 6 point bet which made it a profitable day for DAQMAN followers.
WASHED OUT: Newcastle has already been abandoned on Thursday but DAQMAN is hoping the rescheduled Welsh National will be good to go on Saturday.
TWO CARDS: Just the two all-weather cards on Tuesday but DAQMAN has his eyes on another profitable day.

Four Ladbrokes sponsored races at Lingfield and Southwell this afternoon and I have bets in all of them.
FLYING THE FLAG FOR PATRIOTIC
1:10 Southwell – Download The Ladbrokes App Handicap (4yo+, Class 5, 1m, 7 runners)
It’s hard to get away from the chances of top weight Patriotic.
He was a good third here last time in a class 4 over the shorter trip and should relish the extra furlong and drop in class. The handicapper seems to have given him a present over Christmas too with a 2lb drop in the weights.
Excuse the pun, but Clockmaker holds his form as regular as clockwork. He seldom runs a bad race, loves Southwell and is sure to put in another big effort. The handicapper though appears to have got him exactly where he wants him. The ten-year-old hasn’t won in his last six starts but only beaten an average of 2.33 lengths.
Clockmaker had another of today’s rivals, Ythan Waters, four lengths back in third on New Year’s Day and should confirm that form.
TOP PRIZE AND A CERTIFICATE
1:40 Southwell – Ladbrokes Handicap (4yo+, Class 3, 7f, 7 runners)
This certainly looks one of the best races of the day – a class 3 handicap with some of the top stables represented.
Westwood Hoe bids for a hat-trick after wins at Doncaster (50/1) and over course and distance last time out in a class 2 which was a bit of a bunch finish. He’s only gone up 2lb in the weights – so, as a class dropper, has to be respected.
I prefer though the chances of the Roger Varian trained Certificate who seemed to improve for the first time visor to win well at this level at Lingfield last time out. He looks more than capable of finding further improvement.
SIGNED, SEALED BUT NOT DELIVERED
2:10 Southwell – Ladbrokes Maiden Stakes (4yo+, Class 5, 1m 4f, 6 runners)
If Signed Sealed wins today it will be a little like the Christmas card that arrives after Christmas. The sentiment is there but it’s not quite the same.
He has certainly proved a costly horse to follow with defeats for punters at 4/7, 9/4, 9/4 and 5/2.
He gets stepped up in distance today but is a risky proposition. The eyes get drawn in by J H M Gosden but Signed Sealed has never faced this unique surface at Southwell and I have to look elsewhere on value grounds.
Starving Faithful was a course and distance second in what probably amounted to an unreliable race last time out (favourite unseated leaving stalls) but gets a tick in the distance and surface boxes and that might well be enough.
TIME FOR TIMOA
3.30 Lingfield – Ladbrokes Maiden Handicap
A small but competitive field of five go to post for the Lingfield finale. Timia looks an interesting runner for Newmarket based Ed Dunlop. A few of these are beginning to look exposed but that isn’t the case with Timoa who has had just the three starts – all on the all-weather – and has started at odds of 33/1, 50/1 and 50/1 !!
She certainly hinted at ability last time out over course and distance when 5th of 12 in a maiden and certainly doesn’t look overly harshly treated on her handicap debut.
A few of these are looking exposed but that’s not the case with Footlight who is another who could improve after just three starts. She showed more promise when sixth at Wolverhampton last time out but I’d worry that this trip will find her stamina out.
A bigger danger may come from the top weight Ertidaad who is the most experienced runner in the field and shaped well over course and distance in 2014 and more recently (and of more relevance) wasn’t beaten far at Kempton over six furlongs last time out. Sadly, he was one of Pat Eddery’s final runners as a trainer and is now in the care of his partner Emma Owen.
