NORMAL SERVICE RESUMED: After a rare mixed day yesterday SHAMROCK fully expects Willie Mullins to bounce back in the big races at Punchestown this afternoon.
Frustrating day yesterday with Djakadam falling at Cheltenham and the second leg of the double Limini drifting before winning at 4/5. Annoying for me as was the original nap but was too short at morning prices.
Fortunately, Djakadam is still on course for the Gold Cup as it looked a potentially nasty fall at the time. He ended up suffering a cut which required stitching.
Mullins tweeted: “Djakadam is back home. He has a cut on his chest that required stitching and will have an easy week walking.”
It now seems likely that Djakadam will take in another race before the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup in which he finished second last year.
It was a rare mixed day at the office for Mullins on Saturday but looking at twitter you would think the wheels have fallen off the whole operation. What a difference 24 hours makes !!
He should be back amongst the big race winners with Felix Yonger (DAQMAN’s banker) in the Grade 2 Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown this afternoon. He’s only been beaten once in his last six starts and won in this Grade last time out at Navan in the Hilly Way Chase where stable companion Twinlight (runs again today) was pulled up. He also holds Days Hotel on that form.
In all probability, Flemenstar was gifted a Grade 1 when Un De Sceaux fell two out at Leopardstown and on spring form from last season is comprehensively held by Felix Yonger who slammed him on two successive occasions.
Mullins should also land the Listed novice hurdle at 2.00 with Myska who can remain unbeaten. It would be no surprise to see a Mullins 1-2 here with Royal Caviar.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Myska (2.00 Punchestown)
NEXT BEST: Felix Yonger (3.00 Punchestown)
DAQ MULTIPLES: Win double above pair
