FELIX LAND TIED COTTAGE: Willie Mullins bounced back from a disappointing Saturday when Felix Yonger won the featured Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown yesterday.
My nap Myska ran a shocker at Punchestown yesterday but some losses were claimed back when the next best Felix Yonger (also DAQMAN’s BANKER) won the featured Tied Cottage Chase on the card.
Flemenstar, who I thought was a lucky Grade 1 winner at Leopardstown, ran a cracker and kicked for home under Andrew Lynch on the turn for home.
It was a move though that Ruby Walsh had covered on the even money chance Felix Yonger and the pair went on to be by 1 3/4 lengths.
The winner could now either head for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Festival (18.5 on BETDAQ) or, a few miles further away, a race in Japan !!
Willie Mullins said after the race: “Ruby said he’s still improving, and I’d imagine he’ll take up his entry in the Champion Chase.”
“The other option is to go for the race in Japan that Blackstairmountain won, but I’ll have to talk with Graham Wylie. It’s very expensive to run in, but there is big prize-money.”
“We always thought he was better on better ground, but he seems to be handling this ground. If he went to Japan that would rule out Cheltenham.”
Down Royal are expected to be fit for racing on Wednesday. The Racing Post tweeted that clerk Brendan Sheridan walked this morning and the ground is heavy but has dried considerably.
