ANNIE POWER SET FOR WEDNESDAY RETURN: The stage looks set to welcome back Annie Power at Punchestown on Wednesday as she warms up for another crack at the Cheltenham race she dramatically came to grief in 12 months ago.
Very much a day to forget at Naas yesterday. The nap, Ttebbob, looked like winning the Flyingbolt Novice Chase before being caught close to home by Sambremont. Black Hercules came to grief at the last with the Ten Up Novice Chase apparently at his mercy and my best result of the day was Prince Of Scars being a non runner 🙁
No Irish racing this week until Punchestown on Wednesday but it will be worth the wait as we have the reappearance of Annie Power to look forward to in the Punchestown.com Mares Hurdle over two miles and four furlongs.
The Willie Mullins trained mare hasn’t been seen since winning the Irish Mares Champion Hurdle at the course last May and is a warm favourite on BETDAQ for next month’s OLBG Mares Hurdle at the Festival or she could run in Thursday’s feature – the World Hurdle.
Few will ever forget her dramatic fall in the OLBG race last year when well in command at the last before falling and handing the race to stable companion Glens Melody.
Willie Mullins had originally intended for his star mare to be back in action earlier than this but a knocked joint has delayed her return.
Mullins said: “I think she will run at Punchestown. I’m happy enough with her, and she’s been working nicely.”
Ten horses were entered at the five-day stage (including three additional runners for Willie Mullins) with final runners being confirmed tomorrow.
