SHAMROCK NEWS FILE: SHAMROCK wraps up the latest news stories as we reach just 22 days until the Cheltenham Festival.
NO RACING UNTIL THURSDAY: The next scheduled meeting in Ireland is Thurles on Thursday when the At The Races Michael Purcell Memorial Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) is the feature.
TODAY:
Days Hotel – checks in for a third Naas win
Better ground identified – as a key factor for Identity Thief
Concorde – set to fly again at Cheltenham
- DAYS CHECKS IN FOR ANOTHER NAAS WIN: Days Hotel won the big chase race at Naas yesterday for a third time under a front running ride from Andrew Lynch. He had already won the race in 2013 and 2014 and the Henry de Bromhead trained 11-year-old was sent off a 7/2 chance yesterday. He produced his best jump at the last and stayed on strongly to beat Twinlight by seven and a half lengths.
- IDENTITY THIEF WANTS IT FASTER: De Bromhead also gave news on his Champion Hurdle hope Identity Thief (currently 6.6 on BETDAQ). He said: “He’s in really good form and I’m delighted with him. The race has opened up (with Faugheen out). I’m delighted with him at home and he seems in good form. Hopefully we’ll get there and we’ll see how we go. The day he won in Down Royal it was pretty nice ground and presumably we’ll get that, although it’s been a different year this year. When he won his bumper it was good ground and he was very impressive that day.”
- CONCORDE STILL FLYING: Trainer Dermot Weld issued an upbeat report on Silver Concorde ahead of his bid to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. He has a pretty impressive Festival CV – winning the Champion Bumper in 2014 and fourth in last year’s Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle. Weld said: “He’s coming along nicely and you must always remember he wants real good ground. As we all know, he’s a top of the ground horse.”
