HAYLEY TURNER: I got back in the saddle for the first time since November earlier this week and now, I can hardly walk! My legs are killing me.
I waited for Storm Katie to disappear and for the temperature to be above freezing until I made an appearance on the Heath. I really enjoyed myself but still have no temptation to be a jockey again, despite my tweets! It was a 50/50 split on who I fooled with my social media antics!
The flat season steps up a gear this Saturday with the Lincoln on everyone’s radar. Personally, I wouldn’t worry too much about the draw of horses in this race though. Looking back over the last 4 years results there have been no themes in which to shrewdly anticipate this year’s winner. For this race it is all about the pace.
For me the favourite has this in the bag. Lord of the Land has a great deal of natural speed and there are no doubts of stamina for him, having won over 6 ½ furlongs on the all-weather in Deauville and another success over a straight 9 furlongs on heavy ground at Maison Lafitte.
Sirius Prospect (pictured) ) is a fantastic price with BETDAQ at 48/1. For me he is definitely worth a small each way dabble. I rode him in the Bunbury Cup of a higher mark, this is the lowest he has been in a handicap for a long time. He’ll like the big field, ground, track and trip and so for me he ticks all the right boxes.
Intransigent, who is running at Kempton on Saturday, didn’t get a great run around last week in the Champion All Weather Sprint but he has been knocking on the door. I prefer his form at Kempton and I’m glad to see he is having his hood back on for this extra furlong race. He is a decent price with Betdaq and for me he would be a great each way bet with only 10 runners in the field.
Another one I can’t seem to ignore for this weekend at Kempton is Volunteer Point, winner of the All Weather Fillies and Mares. She is an every improving filly who has a great attitude and she is more than capable at this listed level. I’m sure Graham Gibbons will have been offered a heap of rides at Doncaster but he has chosen to take this mount at Kempton instead so that could be a tip in itself.
Have a good weekend everyone. Will only be one sleep away from the Grand National this time next week!
