O’BRIEN AT CHESTER: A big week for Aidan O’Brien at Chester. He has just the one runner today in the Cheshire Oaks – a race he has won in four of the last eight years.

Big week for Aidan O’Brien at Chester.

I mentioned yesterday about the six entries he has for Friday’s BETDAQ Dee Stakes – well for the opening day today he relies on just one, Somehow in the Cheshire Oaks at 2.40pm.

Tomorrow’s big hope for Ballydoyle is the exciting US Army Ranger in the Chester Vase . He created a big impression when winning on debut at the Curragh and is already very prominent in BETDAQ’s ante-post market for the Derby at Epsom.

Back to today and Aidan O’Brien has won four of the last eight runnings of the Cheshire Oaks so it’s no surprise to see Somehow trading short on that stat alone.

However, she also brings some good form to the table. She showed great promise on her debut at Leopardstown when third to stable companion Pretty Perfect and then opened her account when winning a maiden at the same track last month. She beat the Dermot Weld trained Shamreen that day who has since followed up with a win of her own at Gowran Park.

On the bare form Somehow still has plenty to find but that’s a comment that applies to the majority of this field who are also up in class.

Amongst the dangers the Ralph Beckett trained Diamonds Pour Moi looked good when making a winning debut at Kempton but that’s all we know about her and the John Gosden trained Pursuitofthestars needed five bites at the cherry to win her maiden at Chelmsford last time out but also showed signs of temperament at the start.
