HOW TO LAND 554 WINNING BETS: A hat-trick by Pricewise at Leopardstown yesterday reduced the deficit in their value race to Daqman 14, Pricewise 8, and the gap between them to a single-unit level stake is now 37 points (Daqman +28 points, Pricewise -9.07). They’ve landed 554 wins between them in seven seasons, the six completed all won by Daqman (399-155).
HOW TO GET 84.0 A 12-1 SHOT: Surprise winner of the Deloitte Novice Hurdle was Bacardys at 12-1, offered at 84.0 for the Supreme Novice Hurdle in the BETDAQ ante-post orange before the race, as highlighted by Daqman yesterday. Bacardys is now as low as 12-1 with bookmakers for Cheltenham.
DAQMAN TODAY: Three selections this Monday from DAQMAN as he sets his sights on the all-weather at Wolverhampton and a chaser in form at Plumpton.
TOMORROW: CHELTENHAM CAVALRY
Daqman’s trials verdict. That’s the promise for tomorrow when his Fortune Cookies are replaced by Cheltenham cavalry, his line-up of the sure-shots for the festival.
Says Daqman: ‘What hasn’t impressed by now stands little chance in the championship races. We’ll look at them tomorrow then, in the final weeks of the countdown, I’ll unearth the handicap dark horses which in the last few seasons have helped bring me ante-post success at the festival like:
WON 43-1 Cause Of Causes
WON 25-1 Holywell
WON 16-1 Rock On Ruby
WON 12-1 Ballynagour
WON 12-1 Spring Heeled
WON 11-1 Irish Cavalier
WON 10.5 Synchronised
WON 10-1 Cause Of Causes
WON 9-1 Call The Cops
WON 8-1 Blaklion
WON 6-1 Glen’s Melody
WON 5-1 Sprinter Sacre
WON 5-1 Vroum Vroum Mag
WON 9-2 Dodging Bullets
WON 9-2 Moon Racer
FORTUNE COOKIES had a field day with 20 winners, including Asthuria, Bellshill, Douvan, Fox Norton, Frodon, Good Thyne Tara, Its’Afreebee, Jenkins, Thistlecrack, Vroum Vroum Mag and Yorkhill.
They have not only been profitable as a winning team but have served as a benchmark for big-race form from which to locate the Cheltenham winners.
TODAY: GOSDEN’S ROSIE TO BLOOM
2.30 Plumpton The addition of blinkers and more aggressive tactics seemed to suit Royal Salute last time as he was always travelling well before powering away close home. He has a 5lb raise for that performance but he looks capable of defying that rise if he is in the same form. Anthony Honeyball has his string in good form at the moment and has struck up a good partnership with Harry Cobden (32% win rate, +5.08 LSP). Conditions will be similar to his win over course and distance two weeks ago so they should hold no fears and at 2.46 on BETDAQ he looks a good bet.
2.50 Wolverhampton The penny finally seemed to drop with My Rosie last time and she must have a good chance moving into handicap company now. The step up in trip seemed to be a big help and she can be expected to be aggressively ridden early by Luke Morris. She is exceptionally well bred and cost 400,000gns at the sales so connections will be very keen for her to get her head in front. The 3.35 available on BETDAQ looks a fair price and she gets the selection.
4.50 Wolverhampton There was plenty to like about Swendab’s win last week at Kempton and under a 6lb penalty he might be capable of going in again. He was a much better horse than this a couple of seasons ago and if he has hit a vein of form he is the one to beat. Timmy Murphy got a good tune out of him last time and it is a positive that he retains the ride. The 5.6 available on BETDAQ looks too big and he is worth a chance.
DAQMAN’S BETS:
BACK 7pts win ROYAL SALUTE (2.30 Plumpton)
BACK 8pts win (nap) MY ROSIE (2.50 Wolverhampton)
BACK 3pts win SWENDAB (4.50 Wolverhampton)
