KOMOREBI FOR FAB DERBY

⭕ 3.30 Chantilly (French Derby) Les doyens, the grand old men of French racehorse training – Andre Fabre (aged 80) and Jean-Claude Rouget (72) combined – are dwarfed by the £3m prizemoney won already this season by Francis-Henri Graffard.

But Graffard, trainer of world-champion Calandagan and Arc star Daryz, will need all the skills of his jockey Mickael Barzalona on Daryzan (10), half-brother to Daryz, to overcome a double-figure stall and win the Prix Du Jockey Club today after only one race in his life.

Right next door Hawk Mountain (11) and, further out, Constitution River (15) are also pushed middle to wide under Christophe Soumillon and Ryan Moore for Aidan O’Brien, winner of this race twice in the last five seasons.

Single-figure stalls have won the last 10 French Derbys and provided 22 of the 30 placed colts.

Of the best drawn, Komorebi (stall 7 for Andre Fabre and William Buick), who was a strong-finishing second in the French 2,000 Guineas, is top-rated over Hankelow (stall 1 for Karl Burke and Clifford Lee), who weakened into third at Longchamp that day and may need softer ground.

Oxagon (stall 3 for Team Gosden and Oisin Murphy), won the Craven Stakes, but Gostam (5) and Dolmalan (6) are both unbeaten winners over around today’s trip.

Dolmalan is 2-2 at Chantilly, in one of them beating the O’Brien third string today, Montreal (stall 8 this afternoon), but that was only Listed level.

🇫🇷 DAQMAN’S 1-2-3: Komorebi has the Classic form in France and is well drawn. Constitution River can take the wide outside and move in for a late run, with Daryzan third. Follow the market on Betdaq Betting Exchange

PUNTERS ARE BEARIN UP

⭕ 3.55 to 5.25 Nottingham Four races on ITV but none with more than seven runners – a disgrace – but we will hear how lucky we are to have any racing at all.

There will be cosying up to course officials about what a hard time they’ve had with the weather and how there’s a nice grass cover. It could have been worse, like moving Haydock to Carlisle!

It’s odd-on we’ll hear how ‘it’s even good going in France’ as the giggling rises to a crescendo; not much sunshine ‘but the Sunday crowd here are all enjoying themselves.’

⭕ 4.55 Nottingham In truth, Nottingham is struggling, and keeping some of its audience at home for the evening is helping no one.

This race is Class 3: wow! But look past the label: a maiden winner (Galaxy Star) with 10st 2lb tells us all we need to know.

Maybe Tim Easterby’s lightweight Bearin Up is the winner of this race and a meaningful tribute to the day. Betdaq Betting Exchange 17.0.

THALUNA ON SOLO MISSION

⭕ 5.45 Thirsk Saved by the Bell (or is he at Nottingham?). Ninety runners at Thirsk, all on ITV, all with between 10 and 18 declared.

This 5.45 is Class 2: that’s twice wow! And it could be Tim Easterby’s your man again, with Manila Scouse a pound below the mark of his CD win last summer, and back up in trip after a close third over the minimum the last day at Hamilton. BETDAQ 18.5

⭕ 6.45 Thirsk After 3-5 yesterday, William Haggas has one runner all day today: it’s at Thirsk, where he has a 26% strike rate but hopes Thaluna will change his luck there this year (1-5). BETDAQ 5.4.

Beaten less than a length, second on her recent handicap debut at Newmarket, ‘she learned a lot that day’, says Haggas, who is back here Friday with another improving filly, Creative Queen

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
