6/4 WINNING NAP FROM ONLY BET: The fortunes of Willie Mullins trained dramatically on Thursday and SHAMROCK was on the mark with his NAP and only bet of the day YORKHILL who won the opening JLT Novices’ Chase at 6/4.
Happy St Patrick’s Day.
You can’t keep a good man down….. for long.
Willie Mullins put the misery of the last two days firmly behind him yesterday with a four-timer on the card kick-started by the SHAMROCK NAP Yorkhill in the opening JLT who held on from Top Notch in a race where the first three home finished in betting order.
Un De Sceaux was breathtaking in the Ryanair and dominated the race much more than the eventual winning distance suggests.
Nichols Canyon (Stayers’ Hurdle) and Let’s Dance (Mares’ Novices Hurdle) completed the brilliant four-timer.
Gold Cup Day at Cheltenham today and they also race at Down Royal and Wexford this afternoon.
It could well be a good day to end a good week for the Irish challenge at Prestbury Park.
Djakadam will attempt to better his second place in the Gold Cup last year and gets the same good ground. He was a good third to Outlander in the Lexus last time out and should again make a bold account.
There are two Irish trained short priced favourites on the card. On The Fringe bids for a hat-trick in the Foxhunter but it’s not really a race I can play at short odds in.
My nap falls on the Gordon Elliott trained Death Duty in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at 2.50pm.
He tackles this trip for the first time but has shown no signs of stopping over shorter trips including last time in the 2m 4f Lawlor’s Hotel Novice Hurdle Grade 1 at Naas. He renews rivalry with Augusta Kate who fell at the last that day when very much still in contention.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Death Duty (2.50 Cheltenham)
