BETS AT ALL FOUR MEETINGS: Daqman searches all four meetings in England and Ireland today for some bets at prices which will combine for Daq Multiples. He finds reasons for half a dozen individual bets, with the nap at Exeter.
PAUL’S HOT-POT IS MULTIPLES HUB
CLONMEL It’s third time lucky at Clonmel this season for Val de Ferbet (4.05), with three of his opponents having all raced in the last four days.
His seconds here to Clondaw Warrior and Clarcam suggest that he’s the form horse of the race. He reappears after a break, and has won fresh before.
It remains to be seen how many of the recent runners stand their ground against him, so maybe an early position (at 3.6 on BETDAQ) is advisable
EXETER Paul Nicholls has to find a winning streak, and place his horses cleverly, if he’s to catch Nicky Henderson for the trainers’ title. He’s doing well on both counts in the 3.40 novices chase.
His form since Cheltenham is 031032120, still standing, and his runner here, Clan des Obeaux (by Kapgarde)- the hub for my Multiples – emerges from a race at Sandown in which Cheltenham horses filled the first three places.
They were subsequent JLT runner-up, Top Notch; second in the Plate, Baron Alco and Grand Annual favourite, Le Prezien.
Two more sons of Kapgarde have big chances in the next two races. The sire of Garde La Victoire, As De Mee and Hammersley Lake, is responsible for Kap Jazz (4.15) and Kapgarde kJing (4.50).
The 3.75 offer on BETDAQ this morning, Kap Jazz absolutely coasted home at Carlisle and Ludlow and looks capable of taking this this step up in trip in his stride.
Quality shines through in the 4.50 chase with nine out of 10 winners in the decade coming from the top half of the handicap, and the bigger weights are assisted today by better ground, though showers are expected in the afternoon.
Richard Johnson, who returns to Bacchanel’s saddle, would do well to take advice from James Best, who rode the beast at Warwick and changed tactics.
He almost won the race from the front on the former hold-up horse, the first two finishing 27 lengths clear.
I imagine the scene as Bacchanel and another pace horse, Kapgarde King, get away from this field. King loves going right-handed but would be vulnerable if there is much rain. At around 5.4 each, I can back both. The rest are losers in my book.
SOUTHWELL There’s a class-2 handicap at Southwell (4.25), in which I fancy Dusky Dawn at 14.0 offers to step up in grade.
At least she’s a fair win and place bet after striking form on the last day.
Her trainer has had eight consecutive of his last nine runners finish in the first four, two of them winners.
WETHERBY Sigurd (6.4 BETDAQ offers in the 3.25 race) has been tenderly handled in his obligatory trio of novice races, always with a top jockey on board to do the educating, and is now qualified for a handicap.
Aidan Coleman’s in charge today, with trainer Jonjo O’Neill having a 25% strike rate with hurdlers on this track. Don’t let top weight put you off; this is only class 4.
