FLYING START FOR THE FRENCH

2.00 Ayr French Flyer made such an encouraging start on debut here last month that I am finding him impossible to oppose in the opener today.

He steps up in trip but that looks a big positive given how well he quickened up in the closing stages when beating Up Sticks And Go by two and a quarter lengths.

The only negative is that the form hasn’t stacked up well subsequently with the horses in behind but that’s a little unfair to hold against French Flyer who is likely to improve significantly for the run and can make it two out of two here.

Main danger is the Mark Johnston trained Poet’s Prince who has finished runner-up on both starts over six furlongs at Haydock and Hamilton. He was a little disappointing last time when well beaten by Armed Response and the extra trip today is not certain to suit.

2.45 Ffos Las A six furlong maiden in which the Marcus Tregoning trained Waqt stands out.

The stable are in good form with three winners from their last 10 runners and Waqt should add to that despite a lengthy absence of 409 days.

He hasn’t been seen since finishing a three length second to Kachess on debut at Goodwood but anything like that form will be good enough in what looks a weak event.

The filly Paradwys is probably the main danger. On her sixth start she returns to maiden company having only beaten one home on her handicap debut at Newcastle last time out.

7.20 Windsor Super Julius might struggle to complete the hat-trick.

The Eve Johnson Houghton trained runner only scrambled home by a half length at Brighton last time out and is up a further 3lb but also TWO GRADES for this class 3 handicap.

Dark Shot is much preferred after his close up fifth (beaten less than a length) over the six furlong trip here last time out in a Grade 2.
