MONDAY AT LISTOWEL: SHAMROCK’s best bet of the day runs in the fillies maiden at Listowel, part of a seven race card on expected heavy ground.
Heavy ground forecast at Listowel today and a mudlark who I think will take advantage of the conditions is Dochasach in the fillies maiden at 3.30pm.
She already has some good placed efforts to her name but it was her performance last time out that really encourages me to have a bet today.
She was beaten just a half length at Gowran Park behind Empress Lyla over the same mile trip as today and it was also on heavy ground. She joined the Tom Cleary stable after the run (from Jim Bolger’s yard) and has the visor on for the first time today.
Overall her form is strong enough for this and she has the proven heavy ground ability.
Ice Storm was a 33/1 shot on debut but belied those odds with a good fourth at Navan and can build on that effort if coping with the softer ground.
The Dermot Weld trained Alahida didn’t seem to improve on her debut effort and is another without heavy ground experience – the same comments apply to Althiba who has had plenty of chances.
