WORLD CUP: We preview Saturday’s four World Cup games between FRANCE v AUSTRALIA, ARGENTINA v ICELAND, PERU v DENMARK and CROATIA v NIGERIA each with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

FRANCE V AUSTRALIA

11am It’s the first Saturday of the World Cup and we have four games to enjoy today! We kick off early with France taking on Australia, and with all the talent that France have in their squad at the moment, it will be very interesting to see how they line up and how they play. They have heavy favourites, with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; France 1.28, Australia 12.5 and the draw is 6.8.

One thing to say looking at this Australian team is that they have goals in them, and that makes plenty of markets interesting here with France so short. Both Teams To Score is very appealing at 2.52, while over 2.5 goals is trading 1.73 – on the handicap, Australia are around 2.3 with a +1.5 goal hand start and that will appeal to many. The bet we like is Both Teams To Score at 2.52 – Australia arrive into this game having scored six goals in two games and we can see them taking advantage of France at the back. Obviously France are hugely talented going forward; and are very likely to out score Australia, however 1.28 looks a little short for backing.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Both Teams To Score at 2.52.

ARGENTINA V ICELAND

2pm Iceland turned into everyone’s “Second Team” to support at Euro 2016 and it will be interesting to see how they get on against Messi and Co here! Their game is mostly based on being solid at the back, and you have to remember that Argentina struggled for most of their qualifying campaign – especially to break down sides – so we could see a possible shock here.

The markets feel it will be a reasonably straightforward win for Argentina, with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Argentina 1.37, Iceland 11.5 and the draw is 5.2. Looking at the stats, Argentina wouldn’t jump off the page – they have only won six of their 11 games since their new manager took over, however the more important stat is when Messi is in the team compared to when he isn’t! They are unbeaten in their last nine with Messi, winning six of these games – he is the difference. We expect Argentina to win, however Iceland can make this hard work. Under 2.5 goals is trading 2.08 and that looks too big here – we feel that it should be odds on.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Under 2.5 goals at 2.08.

PERU V DENMARK

5pm This is the most open market of the day, and indeed the World Cup so far – the match odds at the time of writing trade; Peru 3.3, Denmark 2.46 and the draw is 3.35. With France in Group C, this is likely to be the battle for second spot – although Australia will have something to say about that! You’d have to say that Denmark were poor in their first leg against Ireland in their Playoff to reach the tournament – however they thrashed them in the second leg and should be full of confidence.

Peru have an excellent record coming into this World Cup though, and they’ll prove very hard to beat. They are unbeaten in their last 14 games, winning ten of those and although you can say that the opposition might be a lower standard – they know how the get the job done. Denmark struggled to break Ireland down in the first leg and with Peru well set up, we could see something similar here. We expect this to be a very close game, and from a value point of view we’re happy to lay Denmark at 2.46 – we feel that this one will be closer than those odds suggest.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Denmark at 2.46.

CROATIA V NIGERIA

8pm In a Group with Argentina, Croatia will feel the pressure to get off to a winning start here. Especially considering that Iceland finished ahead of them in qualifying for the tournament – that game could prove massive should both sides beat Nigeria and lose to Argentina – so it’s vital Croatia get off to a winning start here.

They are odds on favourites to do so; with the match odds trading at the time of writing; Croatia 1.77, Nigeria 5.6 and the draw is 3.8. Croatia have an excellent midfield, with Luka Modric running the show for them – however there have been rumors of troubles in the camp leading into the World Cup and some of the fans are unhappy – so it remains to be seen how they gel together and play around some of their very talented players. Nigeria have a solid team and they can frustrate this Croatia team, the 1.77 on Croatia looks a little short and we’re happy to back under 2.5 goals at the same odds instead.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Under 2.5 goals at 1.77.
