PREMIER LEAGUE SUNDAY: We preview Sunday’s two Premier League games between CARDIFF v CHELSEA and LIVERPOOL v SPURS both with a recommended BETDAQ bet and extended match stats.
CARDIFF V CHELSEA
2.05pm We have a very interesting Super Sunday ahead and we start with Cardiff v Chelsea! It’s hard to know what to make of Chelsea’s season – they were embarrassed by City when losing 6-0 and everyone thought Sarri was gone, then they had a mini bounce back and then they lost to Everton 2-0 prior to the International Break and that was a big blow in the race for a Top Four finish. Perhaps the Europa League is keeping Sarri in the job for now; but they simply cannot afford to lose more ground in the Premier League and they really need to win games like today.
The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Cardiff 9.2, Chelsea 1.47 and the draw is 4.6. It would be easy to look at these sides and think Chelsea are big at 1.47 as they will simply outclass this Cardiff side; however Cardiff are really battling hard at the bottom of the Premier League. They are definitely more comfortable in front of their own fans and with Chelsea not exactly a united team – they can really put the away side under pressure here. Only Fulham have lost more away games in 2019 than Chelsea which is quite a stat given their league position and we’re happy to lay them again here at 1.47. We expect Cardiff to make this game closer than those odds suggest.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Chelsea at 1.47.

- Cardiff have lost all three of their Premier League matches against Chelsea, with their only previous meeting at the Cardiff City Stadium coming in May 2014, losing 1-2.
- Chelsea have won seven of their last nine matches against Cardiff in all competitions (D1 L1), with their only defeat in this sequence coming at Ninian Park in the League Cup third round in October 1986 under John Hollins.
- Cardiff City have won 71% of their Premier League points this season in home games (20/28) – only Fulham have a higher percentage (88%).
- Chelsea have lost only one of their 17 Premier League games against Welsh opposition (W12 D4), losing 0-1 at Swansea City in April 2016 under Guus Hiddink.
- Cardiff have lost their last 16 Premier League games against the ‘big six’ sides, last avoiding defeat in November 2013, drawing 2-2 against Manchester United.
- Coming into this matchday, only Fulham (6) have lost more away Premier League games in 2019 than Chelsea, with the Blues losing four of their five games on the road so far.
- Chelsea have already lost against Wolves this season – they’ve not lost against two different promoted sides in a single Premier League season since 2012-13 (vs West Ham and Southampton).
- Neil Warnock has faced Chelsea four times at home in the top-flight, each time with a different club; he won in 1991-92 and 2010-11 (with Notts County and QPR respectively) and lost in 2006-07 and 2014-15 (with Sheffield United and Crystal Palace respectively).
- Chelsea’s Eden Hazard has scored five Premier League goals in three appearances against Cardiff City, although all his goals have come at Stamford Bridge; no player has more Premier League goals against the Bluebirds than Hazard (Gerard Deulofeu and Luis Suárez also five).
- Chelsea’s Gonzalo Higuain has scored three goals in his seven Premier League games so far, with all of them coming against teams in the relegation zone (2 vs Huddersfield, 1 vs Fulham).
LIVERPOOL V TOTTENHAM
4.30pm What a big game. This is undoubtedly the highlight of the weekend and this is a huge game for both sides. Everyone might be talking about Liverpool’s push for the Premier League title, but what about Spurs? If they lose here and we see wins for Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea this weekend the pressure is really on Spurs for a Top Four finish – when only a few games ago they were unlikely outsiders to challenge for the league. Liverpool have an excellent home record and if they remain unbeaten here it will be the joint-second longest unbeaten home run in the competition’s history.
The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Liverpool 1.65, Tottenham 6.0 and the draw is 4.2. Liverpool are an excellent home record against Spurs in the Premier League, only losing once in the last 24 meetings. You have to also respect Liverpool’s record here this season, it’s now 36 home Premier League games without a loss. Spurs come here without a win in their last four games and as we noted above, they have really fallen off the pace recently. We can only see a Liverpool win here and they look massive at 1.65 – indeed they look the best value of the weekend in the Premier League, everything points to a home win here.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Liverpool to beat Tottenham at 1.65.
