BETDAQ CHAMPION HURDLE: SHAMROCK looks ahead to this afternoon’s BETDAQ Punchestown Champion Hurdle at 5.30pm and feels a repeat win could be on the cards.

The naps sequence ended at three yesterday when the nap Duc Des Genievres could only finish a well beaten third to the impressive Chacun Pour Soi in the Ryanair Novice Chase.

BETDAQ sponsor the feature today and the BETDAQ Punchestown Champion Hurdle at 5.30pm looks an absolute belter on paper.

It brings together the last two winners of the race in Supasundae and Wicklow Brave – then add in Apple’s Jade and Buveur D’Air who both now have something to prove.

Buveur D’Air fell for the first time in his career in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham and then couldn’t get to Supasundae in the Aintree Hurdle when an odds-on favourite.

Apple’s Jade is a terrific mare but disappointed in the Champion Hurdle and then finished a close third in a driving finish when stepped up in trip for the Ryanair Stayers Hurdle at Aintree. As ever, her mares allowance will prove valuable and she will prove hard to beat back in trip.

Have just got a feeling though that Supasundae might do it again. He’s often running in such exalted company that he becomes the forgotten horse – but that’s unfair as his form is rock solid.

Jessica Harrington’s charge was impressive here 12 months ago (although ground was slightly softer) and his win at Aintree last time out reinforced the view that he comes into this with less question marks than his chief protagonists.
