Two Listed races tonight at Leopardstown including the King George V Cup which has only attracted three runners but what a race in prospect between the Aidan and Joseph O’Brien trained pair Barbados and Eminent Authority and Dermot Weld’s Rakan.
Eminent Authority won nicely on debut at Killarney and can only improve whilst Barbados has the most experience and lost his maiden tag in style at Navan last time out when storming home by five and a half lengths.
The proven form though is with Rakan who won here over a mile in October, beating 19 rivals in the process and then was a by no means disgraced fourth in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes behind Broome over 1m 2f here last month. That’s pretty solid three-year-old form and Rakan also seems pretty adept at racing prominently or coming from behind and that versatility could be worth plenty here in a race that is more than likely to get tactical.
