GAVIN CROMWELL: Our brand ambassador Gavin Cromwell looks ahead to his runners at Gowran Park on Saturday, plus the latest on Raz De Maree who is back working with a Welsh National target if all goes well.
I’ve got a couple at Gowran Park tomorrow, starting with Theatre Of War in the maiden hurdle (2.05pm).
He’s had a couple of starts for us since coming over from Keith Dalgleish’s yard and looked like the winner in the closing stages at Listowel last time out.
He would have been trading very short in-running approaching the last, but just pulled himself up a bit heading to the line and had to settle for third.
We come into this race in good nick and the plan will be to hold him up a bit and come with a late run.
It’s obviously a fairly competitive race with plenty in with chances, but we’ve got that experience under our belt and he should go well.
From the three-year-olds hurdling to the handicap chase for five-year-olds plus (5.00pm) and we’ve got Static Jack lining up.
He comes here fresh having had a little break since his fifth at Killarney in August. All of his work since has been very good and though he’s rated a little lower over fences than he is hurdles, I’m hoping he’ll run well.
Looking ahead to next week and we should have a few going to Galway on Tuesday, including Brex Drago in the beginners chase (4.15pm).
Nothing’s confirmed yet, but we picked this race out for him instead of Gowran on Saturday as we felt there was a good chance Gordon Elliott’s Dallas Des Pictons would be running there. I thought it was best to dodge that bullet!
I know readers will want to hear about Raz De Maree and I’m pleased to say he’s back working.
He seems very well and looks like staying in training at this stage. If he stops showing the right signs, then he’ll be retired.
All being well he’ll stay in training and the Welsh National will be our main target.
