CARABAO CUP TUESDAY: We preview Tuesday’s Carabao Cup matches between MAN CITY v SOUTHAMPTON and EVERTON v WATFORD with recommended BETDAQ bets and extended match stats.
MANCHESTER CITY V SOUTHAMPTON
7.45pm If you’ve just been beaten 9-0, who’s the last team you’d want to play? Manchester City. Poor Southampton; not only are they away to Manchester City in the Cup but they have the same fixture on Saturday in the Premier League. The only positive for them is Pep Guardiola might choose to rest some of his stars for this fixture, but they could still be on the end of another two heavy defeats this week and as we all know these days; the owners might have the manager packing his bags.
The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Manchester City 1.14, Southampton 32.0 and the draw is 10.5. Aston Villa managed to keep City to 0-0 here at the weekend, before City ran away with it in the second half to win 3-0. Would Southampton take that? Obviously losing is a terrible feeling, but keeping the score-line respectable here is probably the best that they can hope for – get to half time with little damage done. The thing with City is if they rest players; those guys will be doing everything in their power to impress and break into the first XI. We can’t see past City scoring goals here and we like Any Other Home Win (Manchester City to score four or more and win) at 2.4 in the Correct Score market.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Any other home win (Man City to score four or more) at 2.4.

MATCH STATS
- This is the fourth time Manchester City have been drawn against Southampton in the League Cup, having been eliminated on each previous occasion, in 1978-79, 1982-83 and 1999-2000.
- Southampton won their very first game against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in April 2004 under Paul Sturrock (3-1), but are winless in nine subsequent visits against City (D1 L8).
- Manchester City are unbeaten in 13 League Cup matches (W9 D4) since Manchester United beat them 1-0 at Old Trafford in 2016-17 – the last side to go on a longer streak were Chelsea, who had an 18-game run between October 2004 and February 2008.
- Southampton have kept nine clean sheets in their last 12 League Cup matches, losing just two matches in this run (W8 D2).
- Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus has scored six goals in the League Cup since the start of last season despite only starting four matches – only Burton Albion’s Liam Boyce (also six) can match his goal tally.
EVERTON V WATFORD
7.45pm This is a very interesting fixture between two sides really struggling in the Premier League. Obviously for the losers little will change; but the winner could use it as a springboard to turn their season around. The point especially applies to Watford who are yet to win a Premier League game this season – with them sitting in last position, they really need to turn things around quickly. Everton have been really poor too and sit just five points ahead of Watford in 16th. A change to Cup football will probably do both teams some good, but both sides lack confidence.
The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Everton 1.76, Watford 5.3 and the draw is 3.95. Obviously Watford have been very poor this season and rightfully sit bottom of the table; however we can’t have Everton at 1.76. That looks woefully short for a side who sit just five points above Watford. They’ve lost recent games to Sheffield United, Burnley and Brighton – Watford have been bad but they have managed to draw their last three games, including an away trip to Spurs. The 1.76 looks like a must lay from a value point of view – we fully expect the game to be closer than those odds suggest.
BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Everton at 1.76.
