JONATHAN HOBBS: It’s a huge weekend for the sport with the GBGB Greyhound of the Year Awards in London on Sunday – but the open-race action kicks off this evening with a clutch of races at Romford. All the action is live on RPGTV – and they tell me the guests tonight are top-notch!

It’s also Hall of Fame night at the Coral venue and some legends on and off the track are celebrated down London Road – so take a bow the following Romford Hall of Famers: ex-racing manager Peter O’Dowd, former trainers Ernie Wiley, Linda Jones, Kenny Linzell and the late Terry Duggan, plus Romford Stadium founder Archer Leggett.

As for the action on the track, a few solid bets catch the eye . . .

Romford

7.17 Bubbly Cain could be value against hot favourite Seaglass Shadow. The latter has been mopping up 400m events of late, but getting round Paul Young’s 34-kilo two-year-old might be tough tonight. He’s been trialling well at Monmore and is still improving.

7.49 Bubbly Buster won a five-runner final last week and looks another Young-trained runner who could take some holding. He starts well and looks drawn the right side of Rackitup Charlie and Ballymac Micko, impressive last week but wider drawn here.

8.06 Tiffield Maximus rocketed home last week and a repeat looks on the cards for Mark Wallis’s dog. He’s run well from the inside before – running a good race against Desperado Dan in the Coronation Cup, so will have his supporters as drawn.

8.21 Headford Cain could be a winner for Kevin Boon. The draw looks spot-on with slower breakers inside and out and he has a chance to get first run on the consistent Alien Sea, although a smash break from Itsur Mate must be respected.

8.53 Final time now and Droopys Proven could build on a solid debut last week. He found Droopys Firmino too good then, but showed pace down the back and further gains are likely second time up – and the Ernie Gaskin camp remains in good form.

9.41 Paul Young could be on the mark again with Whizzy Time. He steps up from sprinting and that early pace could seal the deal here – note a best time of 24.14sec earlier this month which puts him in the mix. Rio Blanco looks his main rival outside.

9.56 Heather Dimmock could have the answer in this 750m maiden. She sends out Tullig Thrill who found trouble when last here, but has some eye-catching lines of form against Droopys Live at Sheffield. A handier slot earlier could be key.

Good luck everyone.
