BETDAQ INSIDER: The week before Cheltenham can be viewed as a quiet week of racing but a lot of noise was made around some eye-catching XSP winners.

The Headliners

Serious trading over the weekend on the exchange brought big wins and losses, including a £20k+ deficit courtesy of Scott McTominay’s late late goal for Man United in the Manchester Derby.

XSP Value

Only one place to start here and that’s at Wolverhampton on Saturday where Richard Hannon’s Haayem finished strong to win at an SP of 80/1. Sportsbook backers would be delighted with such a win until they hear the Haayem could’ve been backed on the exchange at an XSP of 163 – more than double.

Elsewhere, at Exeter on Tuesday there was another show-stopping XSP winner in the shape of Sunny Ledgend. Staying on well from four out, the Andrew Martin trained 66/1 shot went off at an XSP of 112 to the delight of starting price backers.

“Big Price” Watch

A price to rival the earlier XSP winners was taken on Monday when Middlesbrough hosted Nottingham Forest in The Championship. Having gone 1-0 behind in the 29th minute, Middlesbrough produced a two-goal salvo in the space of four minutes to turn the game on it’s head, the second coming in the 44th minute. That late first half goal was hugely significant for one punter, who staked £31 on ‘Boro to be leading 2-1 at HT at a price of 126.0, and in doing so turned their £31 into £3,915.

The week included other notable wins from the footballing world, again outside of the Premier League, as Elche were successfully backed at 23.0 to beat Rayo Vallecano, winning one exchange player over £3,600. Backing The Draw at 24.64 proved to be the right choice for one punter in the Marseille v Amiens Ligue 1 game, as it saw them enjoy a nice win of almost £2,500 off of a £104 stake.

Odds On Backers

Something you don’t see too often on the exchange is a horse’s price going as short as 1.01 during the race, only for the horse to then be beaten, but that was exactly the case on Thursday at Southwell. Light Lily won at the same track on 26th February but on this occasion was outdone by  Red Jasper who finished well to claim the win, to the surprise of in-running punters.

Women’s tennis tends to appear quite regularly in this section of The Betdaq Insider and today is no different as Rebecca Peterson’s comeback win against Kateryna Kozlova disappointed one customer in particular. Having won the first set and leading 3-1 in the second, all appeared to be going to plan for the Ukranian and her backers, but she failed to hold her nerve. Sixth seed Peterson didn’t back down, grinding to a tiebreak win in the second set before taking the decider 6-4, and in doing so lost the punter in question over £1,350 after backing the underdog at 1.11 in-play.
