PREVIEW
This will already be the third time that Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool have met in cup competitions this season and to date there’s been nothing to separate the sides in normal time. Wednesday were just seconds away from dumping Blackpool out of the cup before a 90th minute Kevin Phillips penalty forced a replay for the chance of a money-spinning game against Everton.
Wednesday come into tonight’s clash unbeaten in five games across all competitions, although Gary Megson will be a little disappointed to have drawn three times in that period. Megson’s side are currently second in League One and much of their campaign has been based on a formidable home record. Wednesday have won ten of their 14 home league games and have lost only once since August.
Blackpool picked up a huge win at Cardiff City at the weekend to leave Ian Holloway’s men in fourth place in the Championship. The 3-1 victory in South Wales maintained the Tangerines’ unbeaten start to the year in which they’ve won five of their seven matches.
Holloway has opted to rotate his squad in cup games and it will be difficult to have the same fluidity with a number of changes to the starting XI. Both games between the clubs this season have seen fewer than three goals, so my advice is to back the same here at around 2.13 on BETDAQ.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back under 2.5 goals at around 2.13: 4 points
Monday’s Return: -2 points
