CLASSIC NIGHT AT THE CURRAGH: SHAMROCK previews the Irish Oaks at the Curragh this evening with a recommended NAP in the race.
The Juddmonte Irish Oaks is run at 7.15pm this evening and the big question is will it be another Aidan O’Brien benefit?
He saddles four of the eight runners in what is now a far more open renewal with the defection of his Epsom Oaks winner Love. That form is represented by Epsom runner-up Ennistymon who, although second, was really in another parish finishing nine lengths behind her super-talented stablemate.
Cayenne Pepper is favourite after her staying on second to Magical in the Pretty Polly here but she is unproven at this trip and you don’t want to be taking too many chances on a favourite in a wide open Classic.
I’m not sure there is that much between the O’Brien quartet – Laburnum is outsider of the four but is still progressive and didn’t lose much in defeat on her second start at Naas.
I’ll take a chance on Snow who ran her best race yet when stepped up to this trip at Cork last time out when she won the Group 3 Munster Oaks. More to do here but she looks a guaranteed stayer in a race with a few question marks in that department and it doesn’t (now) look the best renewal.
