DAQMAN TICKS OFF ANOTHER BIG WINNER AT YORK AT 15-2: Daqman managed to squeeze another big-priced winner into his York sequence yesterday (Alfaatik WON 15-2) before the weather became the major ‘form’ factor and his calculations went by the board. These from the first three days:

York Wednesday
WON 18-1 SUMMER MOON (bull’s-eye bet)

York Thursday
WON 15-2 MISS AMULET (from 15.0 on BETDAQ)
WON 7-2 MONTATHAM (bull’s-eye bet from 8.0 on BETDAQ)
WON 6-1 GOLD WAND (nap)

York Friday
WON 15-2 ALFAATIK

HE’S 374 POINTS IN FRONT OF PRICEWISE, LEADING 31-15: Drying good-to-soft ground but with showers forecast this afternoon. Daqman reduces the Ebor field to 12 of the 24 declared and gives his 1-2-3-4. He leads Pricewise into seven tipping races at York and Sandown. Scores: Daqman 31, Pricewise 15. Daqman points profit 56.52; Pricewise loss 318.17.

HAGGAS STAR IS HERE TO STAY

York Trainers (with runners) William Haggas 21, John Gosden 15, Kevin Ryan 13, Richard Hannon 11, Charlie Appleby 10, David O’Meara 10, Richard Fahey 9, Aidan O’Brien 8, Sir Michael Stoute 8, Andrew Balding 7, Mark Johnston 7, Charles Hills 7, Michael Dods 5, Roger Varian 5.

Jockeys (with rides) William Buick 13, Jim Crowley 13, Jamie Spencer 12, Daniel Tudhope 10, Ryan Moore 9, Paul Hanagan 8, Oisin Murphy 8, Andrea Atzeni 7, Silvestre De Sousa 6.

⭕ 2.25 York (Melrose Handicap) It’s an Ebor for three-year-olds only, and harder to land on the winner than the Ebor itself. Favourites have won it just once in the decade.

William Haggas runs two. A Star Above (stall 2), pipped at Goodwood by Mambo Nights, should appreciate the longer trip today.

Stablemate Favorite Moon (out of 12) established himself as a stayer at Haydock the last day on soft, but no wonder Cieren Fallon continues to claim off him.

The second in the Haydock race, the benchmark for today, Subjectivist, went on to Listed success and was third in the (Group 3) Gordon Stakes at Goodwood but was giving 20lb to Favorite Moon.

Subjectivist was also third in the King George V Handicap at Ascot, when giving 11lb to the runner-up, Kipps (out of the one stall today) with the fifth horse home, Jim Crowley’s mount (in 15 today), Arthurian Fable.

But the plunge horse for this during the week has been the sixth, Bodyline (stall 6), who might have gone closer in that King George V, but for hanging right. He has been gelded since.

Ahead of exciting prospects as a juvenile hurdler, Midnights Legacy (also low drawn) gets a chance to show his stamina after winning three in a row over shorter trips, despite being a galloper who will love today’s long straight..

Verdict: The many tangled form lines suggest that Favorite Moon is a false favourite. Kipps and Bodyline are rightfully close up in the betting and Arthurian Fable could continue Jim Crowley’s run but I can see a battle on the far rail between A Star Above (BETDAQ 12.0) and Midnights Legacy (15.0), drawn side by side in 2 and 3.

GO FOR AN EBOR GHOST BUSTER

⭕ 3.40 York (Ebor Handicap) Older horses (aged five and six) win 80% of the time at double-figure odds (also 80%). Nine out of 10 winners had double-figure draws (15 to 22), though Mustajeer (stall 2) last year under Colin Keane found plenty of daylight on the far side as they grouped from the middle to the nearside.

1️⃣ Ghostwatch (stall 10) won the Melrose over today’s York CD in 2018 and then stepped up again to take a Listed at Ascot. Back to form after 20 months off when runner-up at Newmarket in July, giving almost a stone to the winner.

I grabbed 15.0 on BETDAQ but he’s been frightening the layers this morning, and I shall charge to the account at 50 to 4.5.

2️⃣ Fujaira Prince (stall 12) is unexposed at six after just seven runs, all placed, four of them wins. Last year’s Duke Of Edinburgh third won unchallenged in his first race for a year, stepped up to today’s trip in a handicap at Royal Ascot.

3️⃣ Pondus Hidden horse. Took on Addeybb, Magical and Japan last year. Kept to 1m 4f max (won Listed on heavy) but some talk of the Melbourne Cup. I took 15.0 on BETDAQ.

4️⃣ Trueshan Boasting five wins from seven starts on turf, this has always been his target.

The rest of those with a chance in alpha order:

Alright Sunshine (stall 17) Short of room when eighth in Fujaira Prince’s Royal Ascot win. Now 10lb better off. In fine form at this time last year (three wins from four), including success beyond 2m and when failing by a neck to land a gamble at Ayr.

Deja (stall 23) was second first time out in this year’s Duke Of Edinburgh but turned the tables on the winner, Scarlet Dragon, in winning the Old Newton Cup.

Monica Sheriff (21) Five in a row on soft-heavy last season but kept to fillies-only races, and hard to assess. Adjacent stall with stablemate Pablo Escobarr.

Pablo Escobarr (20) Best form at 1m 4f but has a touch of class (second to Anthony Van Dyck in 2019 Lingfield Derby Trial).

Scarlet Dragon (stall 22) sprang a surprise at Ascot, enjoying the soft ground. Up 7lb but the revised weights with Deja suggest a third head-to-head today could go either way.

Ranch Hand (18) Still 8lb higher than when winning over today’s trip on the soft at Haydock last September, but 10lb better with the runner-up, Trueshan.

True Self Better with every run last year but the wheels came off, traveling to Flemington for a Group-3 handicap win, and has tried hood and now tongue-tie, too. Drops from the pattern to a handicap for the first time since sixth in the Ebor last year.

Verdana Blue (13) Scottish Champion Hurdle winner, runner-up in the Ascot Stakes (2m 4f) this summer. Has never won on Flat turf.

THE REST OF THE DAY’S RACING

⭕ 1.50 York I took Miss O’Connor in and out of my Fortune Cookies horses to follow, Is she ready at last to show her true colours? She has her ground and, if she wins, we will say the mare was always going to be an autumn horse! BETDAQ 12.0.

With doubts about the ground for Dark Vision and Pogo, Lord Glitters, dropped from his Group campaign, must go close.

⭕ 2.05 Sandown James Doyle, leading jockey in my York table with 14, swerves the final day for a full book of rides at Sandown, which leaves William Buick and Jim Crowley on 13 each.

Doyle is on an improver in this Sandown handicap, New Chapter, getting 8lb with which to foil Tenbury Wells’ hat-trick bid.

But 6.6 BETDAQ offer Cozone’s course win has been boosted by success for both second and third.

⭕ 2.40 Sandown With Barossa Red withdrawn, Golden Force (2-2 since stepping up beyond 7f) has the way clear to a hat-trick but, oddly, best form is at York and he has none on soft ground.

So I shall take a bit of 7.5 on BETDAQ about Maronnier, who has good form at Sandown, good form on soft, and won second run back last season.

⭕ 3.00 York San Donato, dropping down from the dizzy heights of the Sussex Stakes, is value at 6.6 on BETDAQ, on his places in the French Guineas and the Summer Mile at Ascot.

⭕ 3.15 Sandown Matthew Flinders drops back to a mile after trying to give 7lb to Roberto Escobarr, who was as short as 11-2 against Pyledriver and Co in the Great Voltigeur. BETDAQ 5.4.
