ODDSTRACKER: On Sunday evening the Dallas Cowboys produced a memorable comeback to win at the death against the Atlanta Falcons and so we decided to take a look at how the odds fluctuated throughout this remarkable game.
The odds showing how the Cowboys overhauled a 20-point deficit against the Falcons
Though we’re only two weeks into the new NFL season, we’ve already been treated to some fantastic matches and some thrilling finishes.
The Kansas City Chiefs needed an overtime field goal to beat the Las Vegas Chargers, while the Seattle Seahawks denied Cam Newton and the New England Patriots in the dying stages of their match on Sunday evening, but it was the Dallas Cowboys’ epic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons that stole the show.
Here at BETDAQ, we’ve traced how Mike McCarthy’s side turned it around in this week’s Oddstracker.
Although both teams lost their opening matches, homefield advantage meant the Cowboys were a 1.65 chance as the game kicked off, with the visiting Falcons available at 2.2.
However, things took a turn for the worse for the hosts as a disastrous first quarter saw two Falcons touchdowns, a field goal as well as a failed fake punt, meaning Atlanta led 20-0 and were just 1.11 for victory, with Dallas an unfancied 6.5.
It didn’t get much better in the second quarter either with Dallas only reducing the gap by one as an Ezekiel Elliott touchdown and a Greg Zuerlein field goal were virtually cancelled out by a Calvin Ridley TD and a Younghoe Koo field goal.
With the score at 29-10 in Atlanta’s favour at the half, the Falcons were just 1.06 for their first win of the season, while Dallas were 9.0.
That price quickly halved, though, as Dak Prescott ran in a score to leave the deficit at 12 and Dallas’ star quarterback quickly doubled up three minutes later, meaning the Cowboys were now 2.9 and Atlanta 1.35.
The revival looked to be dead in the water, however, as the Falcons reeled in 10 unanswered points and with a 15-point margin in their favour with less than five minutes to go, things looked bleak for the hosts who were now 13.0.
A Dalton Schultz touchdown with three minutes to go made things interesting, but after the Cowboys missed the subsequent two-point conversion, it looked all but done as they drifted further to 19.0.
They managed to get the ball back and after Prescott ran in his third TD of the day to leave the score at 39-37, the Cowboys were now 10.0, with Atlanta still overwhelming favourites at 1.04.
However, in remarkable scenes, Dallas recovered the onside kick which saw them shorten dramatically into favourites at 1.8, with Atlanta now the outsiders at 2.0
The home side made their way downfield and it was just left to Zuerlein to kick the winning field goal and in doing so, complete an historic comeback.
