WEDNESDAY WINNERS: Daqman goes in search of winners today at Hamilton and Kempton where he has spotted two WIN 20 opportunities in the 8.30.
ALL CHANGE ON SATURDAY: Haydock’s two day meeting on Friday and Saturday this week has been cancelled due to an ongoing drainage issue at the course. Carlisle will now stage Saturday’s card including the feature races – the Listed Achilles Stakes and Group 3 Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes. There is now also an additional figure at Wolverhampton on Friday.
HE’S LOOKING SHIPSHAPE
⭕ 3.35 Hamilton Shipshape has done well since stepping up in distance and might well still have enough improvement to see off chief Betdaq Betting Exchange rival Gentle Warrior.
The pair should dominate this class 4 handicap with the remaining three runners looking firmly in the grip of the handicapper.
Gentle Warrior was outclassed at Musselburgh in a class 3 last month but bounced back with a better run at Nottingham last time out to finish second to Russian Rumour. The only problem that day was that he emptied pretty quickly having travelled the best in the run and might have the same issue today over a similar trip but over a much more demanding course.
That tilts the scales in the favour of Shipshape who joined Bernard Llewellyn’s yard from Ralph Beckett.
LOOPING TWO HERE
⭕ 8.30 Kempton A competitive class 3 handicap in which one of the key questions will be whether the Hungarian bred Alther Walden can bounce back after a disappointing run last time out when he was pulled up over two miles at Musselburgh.
It might be as simple as the trip was too far and the drop back in distance and return to the all-weather enough for normal service to be resumed but I’m never keen on backing a horse with a P next to it’s name – particularly, as in this case, it is heading the market.
Ernst Blofeld and Time Loop both have good claims and I will back both for a WIN 20 return.
Ernst Blofeld made an encouraging stable debut at Newmarket when fourth to Asgard’s Captain and should come on for the run. He won here at Kempton on his second career start.
The mare Time Loop is up in trip but also down in class. She was making late progress over 1m 2f at Newcastle last time out and looks worth chancing over this extra quarter of a mile.
TIME TO CHIME
⭕ 9.00 Kempton Moon Chime is back on the flat after winning the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock at 33/1 just 18 days ago. Previously he finished fourth to today’s nap Shipshape at Southwell – so hopefully we’ll get a late form positive for this one.
He’s clearly in good heart and is preferred to Selenic who has struggled off her new mark since winning at Newcastle.
