THE STRIKER: previews Wednesday’s Carabao Cup action with a recommended BETDAQ bet and extended match stats for the 7.45pm games between FLEETWOOD TOWN V EVERTON and LEICESTER V ARSENAL.

FLEETWOOD TOWN V EVERTON

7.45pm We have another great night of Carabao Cup action on Wednesday and we start with Fleetwood hosting Everton live on Sky Sports. Everton have hit the ground running since the new season started with three wins and nine goals. They put five past West Brom at the weekend, and grinded out a nice 1-0 win away to Spurs on the opening day. They beat Salford 3-0 last week to reach this stage, and we should see more or less the same team here.

Fleetwood made to the League One Playoffs last season, but lost at the first stage. They are a solid side and they should be hanging around the Playoff places again this season. That being said, they are a couple of levels below this Everton side and the Premier League side should be winning favourites here. We had some very low prices last night with Spurs and Man United – I’m surprised to see Everton as big as 1.44 here. They are full of confidence and I’m happy to take the 1.44. I expect some changes to their XI, but they should be shorter than 1.4 for me.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Everton to beat Fleetwood Town at 1.44 with BETDAQ Exchange.

MATCH STATS

  • This will be the first ever competitive meeting between Fleetwood Town and Everton, and just the second Premier League side the Cod Army have faced (D1 L2 vs Leicester in 2018).
  • Everton have won their last eight first-time meetings with domestic opponents, most recently against Salford City in the last round (3-0).
  • This is the furthest Fleetwood Town have ever progressed in the League Cup. The Cod Army have never kept a clean sheet in their previous 11 matches in the competition.
  • Everton have won 12 of their last 14 League Cup ties against sides from a lower division, losing against Leeds in September 2012 and Norwich in September 2016.
  • Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson has been involved in five goals in his last five League Cup matches (4 goals, 1 assist), scoring and assisting in their second round win against Salford.

LEICESTER V ARSENAL

7.45pm This is probably the stand out tie from the Third Round; although granted we will see plenty of changes to the main starting XI’s. These two are going to be in and around the same position in the table this season, and while neither will view this fixture as dramatically important, it might give a mental edge later in the season when the sides meet. However, it’s difficult to know how the dressing room views these games with so many changes.

Arsenal have started their season with a bang with a smooth 3-0 win over Fulham and a late 2-1 win over West Ham. The cracks started to show at the weekend for me though. I know their fans are full of confidence, but West Ham won the game 2.32 to 1.33 on xG and Arsenal were very lucky to win. They will have a “surprise” loss soon – although it won’t come as a surprise to many; probably a tricky away tie to a mid-table side. Leicester are currently top of the Premier League with two wins from two but with a lot of changes expected I like the draw at 3.5 here. Arsenal look too short at 2.52, but I don’t want to commit to a lay without seeing the teams. I expect a close game, and thought the draw should be 3.25.

The Striker Says:
One point win Draw at 3.5 with BETDAQ Exchange.

MATCH STATS

  • This is just the third time Leicester and Arsenal have faced in the League Cup – Leicester won in the second round following a replay in 1974-75, while Arsenal won over two legs in the second round in 1991-92, with Ian Wright scoring on his debut for the club in the away leg.
  • Arsenal have lost each of their last three away games against Leicester in all competitions, as many defeats as in their previous 19 visits to the Foxes (W5 D11 L3).
  • Leicester have reached at least the quarter-final of the League Cup in each of the last three seasons, last falling at this stage in 2016-17. The Foxes have lost just one of their last 14 games in the competition (W6 D7).
  • Arsenal have progressed past this stage of the League Cup in 16 of the last 17 seasons, failing only in 2014-15 against Southampton.
  • Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho has been involved in 11 goals in 14 League Cup appearances (8 goals, 3 assists), scoring in each of his last four games in the competition for the Foxes.
