BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s Big Bash game between between Melbourne Renegades v Perth Scorchers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

The Edge has been a professional cricket trader for over 12 years, and we are delighted to have his columns on BETDAQ Tips. He provides his best bets on a points scale between 1 and 5, with 5 being a rare max bet.

Because we see so much action in-running on cricket, he will also provide some in-running strategies that could develop in-play and lead to some excellent value bets. The Edge covers all forms of cricket: Test Matches, ODI’s and T20’s but his favourite competition is the Indian Premier League each season.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Two of the more fancied sides clash on Saturday morning in the Bellerive Oval as Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers have their first game of the new Big Bash season. We have seen a couple of games now and I am still undecided on if I’m enjoying the new rules or not! The 10 over bonus point target has certainly added a new dynamic to the market in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange and perhaps the new power play is working but I don’t like the sub “X-Factor” player – I don’t think it adds a lot of value to the game.

Perth Scorchers have an excellent squad this season. They have some strong domestic players that are excellent at this level, but not quite good enough to play for Australia which means that Perth can enjoy their services for the tournament. Other teams have more star names, but they will miss their stars while Australia play the likes of India in the Test series. They have also added Jason Roy at the top of the order, but he will obviously have quarantine issues having played for England. Their bowling looks very good, and it’ll be interesting to see how they perform against a good Renegades side.

The Melbourne Renegades look to have wisely in the off season, and they have the added benefit of having the services of Aaron Finch for the whole season with Australia not needing him for the Test series against India. They’ve managed to get Lalor and Pattinson from Brisbane Heat which should help their bowling too – especially considering they finished last in the table last season. We should have a pretty high quality game here.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We got our first look at conditions here on Thursday morning when Hobart Hurricanes set 178/8 and Sydney Sixers failed to chase it finishing on 162/6. The Sixers should have won though, and traded very short in-running after an excellent start. The Sixers actually got the bonus point after ten overs. I feel we should see similar scores today, however these two bowling line-ups are probably better so do factor that in. Certainly the Perth bowling is probably the best in the tournament – but we should be looking at a first inning score of in or around 170 again. I think that can be chased too, and I’d only be “comfortable” defending 185 or bigger because the 178/8 really should have been chased down.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I’m interested to see how the Renegades perform here after a very poor season. They have improved their bowling so I’ll watch with interest, but for today I can’t see past the Scorchers. Their squad looks very strong and their bowling is very impressive. The Renegades might have Finch but unless he bats through I can see the Scorchers putting them under a lot of pressure. With good batting conditions, it’s good bowling that will make the difference and win the game for the Scorchers.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Perth Scorchers to beat Melbourne Renegades at 1.75 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The fantastic news is we can enjoy 0% commission on all cricket bets today so that will make trading more profitable. By now we should be getting used to the new rules and the market movements around them. With some big key batters here that will move the market massively – I would definitely be ready for action around that 10 over mark. I’d expect wickets when chasing the bonus point, but it’s too early in the tournament to tell if I’m right or not.

Finch is obviously a big wicket for the Renegades, but I would be very keen to support the Scorchers bowling against the middle order of the Renegades. I feel the opposite comes into effect when the Scorchers are batting as they have a very strong middle order. I would be keen to support them to recover if they lose early wickets.
