BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Monday’s Big Bash game between Perth Scorchers v Adelaide Strikers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash moves to the Adelaide Oval on Monday morning as the Perth Scorchers take on Adelaide Strikers. This is a big game for the Scorchers who sit bottom of the table, however they do have a game in hand on everyone. A lot of people fancied the Scorchers to go very well in this tournament, and although there’s plenty of time left it hasn’t been their year so far! They were desperately unlucky in a rained off game against Melbourne Stars when they were in a very good position. Hopefully for their sake that’s not a sign of the type of season they will have!

Adelaide Strikers have played four with two wins and two losses. They battled hard to beat Brisbane Heat at The Gabba just before Christmas – although I’m not sure that was such a positive. They had the game won easily and let the Heat back into it, only to defend seven off four balls at the end to win by two runs. Their bowling looks like it could be taken apart, whether or not the Scorchers have the fire power to do that remains to be seen.

Such is the world in 2020, Perth Scorchers officially have a home game here but it’s actually the Adelaide Strikers home ground! The Strikers had a good record here last season, they actually scored 198/4 in 18 overs against the Scorchers to open last season. They will be hoping for more of the same here.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The average score batting first here last season was 156 but we saw a big difference in scoring. The highest score was 217/1 while the lowest was 100 all out. We had another 135 all out, and then as noted above 198/4 in only 18 overs. The pitch can be a belter or it can get quite dry. It all depends on whether or not the pitch has been used and I would suggest this will be a fresh wicket given the stage of the tournament. The shrewd thing to do is to watch the first three overs to see what the pitch is doing because as I said, it can be very easy or difficult to bat.

RECOMMENDED BET:

An interesting market here. On paper, the Scorchers are the stronger side but I wouldn’t have them as short as 1.75. Purely from a value betting point of view on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, I have to side with Adelaide Strikers at 2.26. On paper the Scorcher batting looks good but they just haven’t performed yet. They might have a good chance here against this Striker bowling but I just can’t have them at 1.75 – Mitchell Marsh can’t do everything on his own! I’d expect a close game here, and the Strikers are worth a small bet.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, do take the time to fully assess conditions. The wicket at the Adelaide Oval can be full of runs or a very difficult surface. It can get very dry and we can see a lot of spin – of course this will impact the game and your trading massively. If the wicket was full of runs, it usually pays to get on the team batting first. The boundaries aren’t massive and we usually see quite a big score that puts too much pressure on the chasing side.

If the wicket is tough to bat on we can see some very low scores and then you obviously want to be on the bowling team first up. That’s why I’d fully recommended not jumping in too soon on an early trade. This Perth batting hasn’t impressed me yet, but the Striker bowling hasn’t either. I feel this is a game to trade around pitch conditions and go from there.
