LOOK OUT TOMORROW FOR CORAL WELSH NATIONAL ABC GUIDE: Today and tomorrow, Daqman, looks at the weekend’s big races, starting with a kingmaker novice hurdle at Naas on Sunday. Tomorrow the Coral Welsh Grand National gets his ABC treatment, after the winners topped his Lincolnshire National and Sussex National analyses.
TODAY: Just two remaining cards on the all-weather at Lingfield and Wolverhampton. DAQMAN keeps the stakes low on a quiet day.
NAAS HURDLE PAYS BIG TIME
⭕ 2.30 Naas, Sunday (Grade 1 novice hurdle) It’s a good thing for the punter (five winning favourites in a row). It’s a top guide for Fortune Cookies.
This race, won by Willie Mullins five times in the decade, but with Gordon Elliott winning three of the last four, has thrown up Ballymore winner Envoi Allen and five placed at the Cheltenham Festival.
Additionally, it produced two Punchestown Festival winners, a Leopardstown Christmas Hurdle star and even a Grand National hero.
From those winning stables of Mullins and Elliott, take a six-year-old (they’re 6-7) and put Paul Townend or Jack Kennedy in the saddle.
But the stats say they must have won two or three hurdles already (8-9) and scored in Grade 1, 2 or 3 (7-9). That gives you:
🔸 Grade 1 Ballyadam (Gordon Elliott), Appreciate It (Willie Mullins).
🔸 Grade 2 Ashdale Bob (Jessica Harrington), Farouk d’Alene (Gordon Elliott)
🔸 Group 3 Fakiera (Gordon Elliott)
Next week: After the race, I’ll be revising my Fortune Cookies.
THE BALLYDOYLE OF SUSSEX
⭕ 2.40 Lingfield Gary Moore has already trained three winners in 2021 and whilst all those have come over jumps (including a 40/1) his flat runners have been going well too.
This near two mile handicap can go to his Ballydoyle who returns to the flat after a third over jumps at Plumpton last time out and doesn’t appear to have much to beat here. Hopefully the first time visor will eke out some improvement and he is racing off a 1lb lower mark than his last flat run.
Alcock And Brown has some good flat form BUT hasn’t been seen on the flat for a staggering 1719 days !! He’s been running reasonably well over jumps recently though and might be a bit over-looked on the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
American Craftsman has come in for some early support. He was a fair fifth over course and distance last time out but the balance of his form is moderate and he has yet to win on the all-weather.
BIG RUN FROM BRUN
⭕ 6.40 Wolverhampton This should go to Charles Le Brun who brings a reasonable standard of recent form into the race and appeals much more than chief market rival Eldelbar.
The Jonathan Portman trained Charles Le Brun makes his Tapeta debut tonight but comes into this on the back of a solid effort at Kempton when pipped a nose last month over this trip. A reproduction of that effort should suffice and account for Eldelbar who might need seven furlongs these days to show his best form.
LADIES FIRST
⭕ 8.10 Wolverhampton Hopefully saving the best until last with the nap running in this Ladbrokes-sponsored handicap that closes the Wolverhampton card.
Ladywood can continue the excellent recent form of the Mark Johnston yard – 6 winners from their last 17 runners.
Ladywood remains progressive and can defy a 6lb hike for her win at Chelmsford last time out where she appeared to relish the step up in trip at Chelmsford to win going away by two and a quarter lengths. She was nibbled at in the market that day from 18/1 to 11/1 and whilst she will be a lot shorter today she should follow up in this company.
Baby Sham hails from another in form stable that of Stuart Williams who has had 5 winners from his last 11 runners.

BET 3.8pts win CHARLES LE BRUN (6.40 Wolverhampton)
BET 7.1pts win (nap) LADYWOOD (8.10 Wolverhampton)
What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
