107 PALAVECINO (Brian Meehan): Fourth in Lingfield CD Listed in December, two-and-a-half lengths behind Bangkok, three-parts of a length in front of the fifth to finish, Johnny Drama (gave 3lb).
106 FOREST OF DEAN (John Gosden): Third to Felix and Bangkok in close finish at Wolverhampton, first run gelded and after long absence, and third again when first two positions reversed in Lingfield Winter Derby trial.
102 VINTAGER (Simon and Ed Crisford): Mile winner (Group 3 soft) for Charlie Appleby at Chantilly, then on Polytrack there for new stable. Weakened, fourth, in Lingfield Winter Derby Trial in first-time visor.
101 FATHER OF JAZZ (Roger Varian): Went clear, impressive, to complete odds-on hat-trick here at Lingfield in early February (back-to-back wins over 1m 2f).
101 POWER OF STATES (Hugo Palmer): Dramatic progress (up a total of 27lb, winning from class-5 to class-2) in five out of seven since October, all around 10f, but beaten favourite sole AW start at Lingfield, making quick reappearance after scoring at Wolverhampton.
BALANCING THE PROPHETE AND LOSS
⭕ 2.35 Huntingdon I was counting my winnings as my nap came to the last at Fontwell 12 lengths clear a week ago.
Who would be a conditional like Sean Houlihan, just unable to lift Un Prophete for a final leap after 3m 2f and 13 fences on the heavy ground. The 10-year-old sprawled the other side like a drunk falling into bed.

Harry Skelton is rampant with 13 winners in the same two weeks as Jeremy Scott has one, but Go Steady seems to be paying the penalty for his three wins out of four last winter.
Un Prophete, who has won a grade higher than today, has previously won back to back within six days so I’m not concerned about the short time turnaround and Venetia Williams’ stable is going for a hat-trick today after two winners at Ludlow yesterday
THE FORM CHAT IS ALL FOR CHINWAG
⭕ 3.12 Sedgefield Trainer Neil Mulholland, who has runners at Huntingdon today and Exeter tomorrow, makes the long haul with just one runner to Sedgefield this afternoon, where his strike rate is a superb 39% with 23-59.
Chinwag (BETDAQ 2.62 taken) is up in the handicap but has improved since a wind op and is claimed off; even if you gave him another stone, it’s hard to find anything in this field that can beat him.
Sid Ismael, whose sole success was nearly two years ago (a bumper), is 0-9 over hurdles and I like his Racing Post comment for today: ‘consistent in defeat.’
But he did run well here at Sedgefield in November and his Keith Dalgleish stable is currently 5-19.
You have to go back almost three years to success for Sam’s Gunner and Michael Easterby hasn’t trained a Jumps winner for 68 days.
Sue Smith (Kauto d’Amour) is in the doldrums again (0-13) and her last five runners have finished seventh, eighth or ninth. Consistent in defeat or what?
The black mark one of the 200 experts has set against Chinwag is that his wins have come right-handed but if you remove his novice form of 2019 he’s never really run a bad race.
GRAND IDEA TO STEP UP IN DISTANCE
⭕ 3.50 Thurles BETDAQ 3.95 offer Grand Paradis turned over a hot favourite of Willie Mullins at Fairyhouse earlier in the month, and I thought Gordon Elliottt had tongue in cheek when he commented: ‘Should get a bit further.’
Should indeed, related as he is to chase and hurdles winners up to 2m 6f, his dam half-sister to a Welsh National winner.
In fact, the step up in trip today could be right up his street and Gordon will know all about his main rival, Willie’s Fighter Allen. He used to train him.
