FLY FRANKEL! IT’S JOHNSTON’S RACE

⭕ 1.50 Newmarket Mark Johnston delivered yet another knockout blow from the front yesterday when Sir Ron Priestley just would not let Al Aasy get by in the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes.

Those of us who thought success for Al Aasy was a foregone conclusion had been waiting instead for this Friday handicap, labelled by some as ‘Johnson’s own.’

He has won it six times in the last eight seasons, including four in a row, using six different jockeys. He has two runners today, one of them, King Frankel, with a potential seventh winning jockey for the yard in Ben Curtis, currently striking at marginally below 40%.

King Frankel was the beaten favourite when Foxes Tales won at Ascot on the soft but has a pull of 9lb today on different ground. The race before that, King Frankel didn’t handle the track at Epsom.

Foxes Tales and Peter The Great are unexposed and we can’t expect an easy but, if King Frankel is beaten, it could be by Dubai Honour, having his first race since October when, badly drawn out of gate 10 in the Britannia at Royal Ascot, he ‘won’ the race among the low numbers but the first three home came from the near side 19, 25 and 28.

BETDAQ value 7.4 King Frankel

⭕ 2.25 Newmarket Sandrine’s Albany Stakes form (Hello You second and Oscula third) could be turned around big time by the speed horse, Flotus, whom Frankie Dettori rides again though they were well out the back at the finish that day.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE VALUE 8.2 Flotus

BETDAQ 22.0 OUTSIDER WELL DRAWN

⭕ 3.00 Newmarket Mark Johnston goes for a hat-trick in this 1m 6f handicap, which Frankie Dettori won for him last year from a wide berth out of stall 10.

Silvestre De Sousa has to perform a similar trick from gate 11 on Themaxwecan, winner of the Queen’s Cup at Musselburgh in April under Ben Curtis, who has a helpful low stall for Johnston on Hochfeld today.

Hochfield was behind Themaxwecan at Musselburgh but places in the Chester Cup and Northumberland Plate have cost him a 9lb rise since that day.

Drawn 7, Arthurian Fable is another who has run well in quality races but has scored only once (1-12).

Amtiyaz, Global Storm, Arthurian Fable, Hochfeld and Throne Hall are all of a heap now that the handicapper has ’equalised’ the weights after their first, third, fourth, seventh and 10th at Royal Ascot.

The Godolphin improver Live Your Dream is wide out in stall 15 but my FORTUNE COOKIE East Asia has a nice draw in stall 5.

East Asia landed a hat-trick from 1m 4f to 2m before running too freely and failing to act on the Tapeta surface for the Northumberland Plate.

BETDAQ value 22.0 East Asia

BE ON FRANKIE’S ANGEL AGAIN: 20.0

⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (Falmouth Stakes) Those placed horses from Royal Ascot I warned you about are still going down the plughole fast, with more losers yesterday.

Today Lady Bowthorpe and Queen Power clash in this Falmouth Stakes, after finishing second and third to Indie Angel at Royal Ascot, Indie Angel clear.

Frankie Dettori takes five rides today but this surely is the one for a punt. Indie Angel was turning previous form around with Lady Bowthorpe that day at 22-1 and no one wants to believe it.

She was getting 3lb then but was worth more, and I can’t accept that it was a fluke. The bigger headache surely is whether she – or, indeed, Lady Bowthorpe – can give weight away to the three-year-olds.

But older fillies and mares have done it seven years out of 10 in the decade, with only Irish invaders scoring for the Classic generation (2016-18), and the clock-watchers are saying that the young ones will be beaten again.

The 1,000 Guineas stars, Mother Earth (1st), Saffron Beach (2nd) and Alcohol Free (5th), have recorded two defeats since for Mother Earth and one for Saffron Beach, with Alcohol Free seemingly the improver.

LAYS LOGIC But, when Alcohol Free beat Snow Lantern (2nd), Mother Earth (3rd) and Pretty Gorgeous (5th) in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, it was heavy ground. Looking for 3.0 or less to lay.

BETDAQ value 20.0 Indie Angel

OPERATIC AT THE TOP OF YOUR VOICE

⭕ 4.45 Newmarket Despite no obvious pace horses, yesterday’s straight 6f field was overpowered by the high-numbers on the far rail, with the result by stall 16, 15, 19, 2, 14.

That’s completely at odds with the winners of this 5f race in the decade, which has gone to 6, 2, 6, 13, 2, 2, 5, 4, 6.

Three-year-olds rarely take it (1-10) but two of them are among the double-figure stalls, which have five out of eight of the market leaders today. The winner almost always comes from among those fancied horses (9-10 between 9-4 and 9-1 SP).

Twilight Calls (13) might do well dropped back a furlong but his 2212 form figures are those of a bridesmaid and his trainer’s former of 0-18 suggests there will be no champagne toast for him.

Benefit Street is a regular at Newmarket. He won over this July course a couple of weeks back but is now worse off with the short-head runner-up Nibras Again, with Oisin Murphy happy to take the ride on the beaten horse again today.

More than half his age is Operatic (out of gate 17), a dual winner over 6f last autumn but who goes with the pace and could show his mettle here. Stable in form (22% strike rate).

BETDAQ value 10.0 Operatic

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
