GOODWOOD CELEBRATION AS DAQMAN WINS ANOTHER LAYS DARE: Daqman took his lays record to 13 out of 18 (72%) when he dared oppose Benbatl, billed as one of the world’s best milers, but narrowly overtaken by an outsider at 9-4 favourite in a dramatic ending to the Celebration Mile at Goodwood yesterday. Mutasaabeq and Chindit both went for the same gap up the rails, a gap that quickly wasn’t there! Standings:

DAQMAN 51, PRICEWISE 30
SUPERNAPS 15-19 (79%)
LAYS LOGIC 13-18 (72%)

CHAMPION NAP BETDAQ 4.5: Daqman is looking for a double from Oisin Murphy at Goodwood today, starting with a nap at BETDAQ 4.5 this morning. His staking plan requires just one winner to cover the day’s expenses.

HOLIDAY BETS TOMORROW: Bank Holiday racing includes the Ripon Rowels and the Amateurs Derby at Epsom

HANNON TAKES IT ON THE CHIN

⚠️ HEADS UP I won’t pretend that the Celebration Mile finish was a satisfactory result unless you are trainer Amanda Perrett on her local track. She’ll take it!

More blue than her lavender was Richard Hannon, wondering just how he can get Chindit into the frame: after taking on the 125-rated Palace Pier and the 122 three-year-old Classic winner, Poetic Flare, he’s out of the threes behind a 106 five-year-old mare!

Jim Crowley was equally gutted because he was confident they had Mutasaabeq straightened out at home and ready to take his rightful place. In his case, it wasn’t just the gap that got to his ride but the fast-run mile. Back at 7f and he’ll get our money – and Jim’s pride – back.

Benbatl will be winning again but, whether you snub stats or not, that 53 years without a seven-year-old winner is now 54 in the Celebration Mile!

KANE CAN SCORE FOR MURPHY

⭕ 1.55 Beverley Roger Varian can leave another Carbon hoofprint on Beverley, where he has a 50% record. Carbon, a son of Kodiac out of a Galileo mare, shaped well on the debut at Kempton Park three weeks back.

⭕ 2.15 Goodwood If the Mile melee hasn’t completely unnerved you from having a punt on this tricky track, Able Kane looks a bet under Oisin Murphy, the Kerry kiddo who continues to run rings round them this week, with six winners in five days and in no way disappointed with his old friend, Benbatl.

Able Kane, dual sprint winner on the firm in class 5 last year, stepped up to class 2 and a furlong further here at Goodwood in July and was runner-up under Murphy in the Stewards Cup consolation (Treacherous a long way behind). No wonder he takes the ride again on the same track today.

Atalanta’s Boy goes for a repeat win in this race, with David Menuisier and Thomas Greatrex as a duo on a 67% strike rate at Goodwood.

But when William Buick takes a Menuisier ride here, he’s 2-2, and tries to keep that 100% record with Betty Crean LA, stepping up in trip in the 5.10.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE 5.3 Carbon and 4.5 Able Kane

KEEP ON RIGHT SIDE OF BUSY

⭕ 2.50 Deauville (Prix de Meautry) Newmarket trainer James Ferguson, who won the Group-3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood with Mise En Scene yesterday, saddles Zoetic, the first horse to put him on the map last summer.

She won back to back, the second of them a Listed at Newbury (soft), before finding herself out of her depth in the Cheveley Park behind Alcohol Free.

Zoetic has only just started back, third in another Listed at Chester on good to soft but, if the idea of this trip was for give in the ground in France, she won’t find it.

The race will be more like a promenade on the Deauville planches, with the sunshine and no showers until the weather breaks there on Monday.

That the rain refrains may be a tip for Light Refrain (trained William Haggas, who runs Johan in the 3.25), a good-ground winner of a Group 3 at York in July (Vadream second).

But the English raider that interests me is 6-1 shot Keep Busy, a 5f winner at Ayr, but who ran on well, fifth, in the Kings Stand Stakes and was not disgraced, also fifth, in the King George sprint at Goodwood, again suggesting today’s extra furlong would help.

I don’t usually follow the Racing Post ratings but I hope they are right that Keep Busy (123) is just one of their units behind Duhail (124), who has to give us 7lb.

Duhail drops back to 6f after Group placings twice, before fourth in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood late last month behind Alcohol Free and Poetic Flare. Again, he too may want it softer.

THE SUPREME TACTICAL TEST

⭕ 4.00 Goodwood (Supreme Stakes) David O’Meara has won this Group 3 twice in the last six years, and Rhoscolyn loves a switchback track, winning at Epsom and Goodwood in his first steps up the ladder to class 2.

Back here in July he might have run down Maydanny in the Golden Mile handicap, repeatedly denied a gap two out and finishing second.

Danny Tudhope takes over today with Oisin Murphy putting on the royal colours for Tactical, who has taken on two new-found ‘machines’ in Baaeed and Sacred at Group level. Onassis and Toro Strike are both winners at Goodwood in this quality test.

BETDAQ value 7.0 Tactical, saver 3.5 Rhoscolyn

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
