T20 WORLD CUP: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s T20 World Cup match between ENGLAND v BANGLADESH with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

England continue their T20 World Cup journey on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi as they take on Bangladesh. We’ve already had so much drama in-play on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and market moves don’t get much quicker than England bowling out West Indies for 55 in their opening game! Bangladesh had some issues in the qualifying section and opened their tournament with a loss against Scotland – everyone is expecting an England win here, but it will be interesting to see how they deal with the spin from Bangladesh.

It’s been a good couple of days for England. Their net run rate is obviously massive after that win against West Indies, and that puts them in a strong position given how tight this group will be – Group 1 will be an exceptionally competitive group. It was also a good week off the field as Ben Stokes was added to The Ashes squad. After a lot of drama in the build-up with travel restrictions in Australia, Stokes added to the squad is a big boost especially for the ECB from a PR point of view.

This game won’t be without drama, but England should win here. Bangladesh look a little poor at the moment. They lost against Scotland, and then opened the Super 12 with a loss against Sri Lanka who also seem very weak. Sri Lanka chased down 171/4 with 7 balls to spare so Bangladesh clearly have issues with the bowlers at the moment. England can sometimes get bogged down by spin however, so let’s see what happens.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The last few World Cup games have taken place at Dubai and Sharjah, so we’ve had a little break since South Africa only managed 118/9 here on the opening Super 12 day. Australia took 19.4 overs to chase that, and that was also a day game. We have seen some reasonably high scores over the last few days, but I would go into this game expecting batting to be tough. Although chasing has looked to be an overall edge so far, I’d bat first here – it gives a chance to make best use of batting conditions and will also tire the bowlers out in the daytime heat.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Although I expect England to win here, they look a little short against a side like Bangladesh at 1.28. I know Bangladesh have a number of issues to work through, but they still have some of the best players around. England have a lot of hitters, and daytime conditions in Abu Dhabi might not suit them. In the long run, England should outclass Bangladesh but I wouldn’t have them 1.28 and they will likely trade bigger in-running at some point. From a value point of view, I am happy with a small investment on Bangladesh at the odds.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, I wouldn’t be surprised to see England trade bigger than 1.28 at some point. That looks very low as a starting point, and it’s very easy to see England struggling in the slow and low conditions. They have top class batters, but I don’t feel they will be able to play their natural attacking game here. England’s bowlers blew away the West Indies, but West Indies look out of form based on their last game too. I would give the side batting first a slight edge here, and I would be looking for a trade on them to finish the innings strongly if they are well set after 12 overs. I’d be interested in taking on the England middle-order if they chased under pressure, but I do feel the market will overrate them the whole game here and you don’t want to be fighting the market all day.
