7.30pm Friday night football in Europe comes from the Bundesliga on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Dortmund host Freiburg. Dortmund dropped a lot of points in the run-up to Christmas and handed Bayern Munich a decent advantage at the top of the table. With Bayern producing a shock loss last weekend at home against Gladbach, this is a good chance for Dortmund to try and close the gap again. At the moment, it’s six points – a win here wouldn’t put too much pressure on Bayern, but what else can Dortmund do only keep trying.
Dortmund hosted Bayern Munich here at the start of December and lost 3-2. That was obviously a big blow to the title race. We landed a Max Bet on Bayern because they were playing much better football at the time, and while you can’t knock Dortmund for losing to such a good team, you can knock them for what they did afterwards. In between wins, they dropped points with a 1-1 draw at Bochum and a loss away to Hertha Berlin. They were unlucky both times, they should have beaten Bochum and drawn with Hertha, but that’s where the damage was done in the title race – along with of course losing to Bayern but they could have kept more pressure on.
With Bayern opening the door ever so slightly last weekend, Dortmund need to go on a win run at the start of 2022. They started well with a 3-2 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt in a game they had to grind out a win in, and they need to continue that here. The market has Dortmund as heavy favourites, trading 1.52 at the time of writing, however this won’t be plain sailing as Freiburg are having a very good season.
Freiburg sit in fourth in the Bundesliga at the moment, and that has been a massive improvement on finishing 10th last season. I know the door has been opened by some underperforming big teams in the league this season, but Freiburg fans can dream of Champions League football at the moment. While it’s important for Dortmund to keep winning to keep pressure on Bayern, Freiburg can’t afford to drop any points in that race for the top four either. Leverkusen and Leipzig are going to come knocking at some point in the season!
The xG table moves Freiburg down a little, but not majorly enough to suggest they don’t deserve to be in the mix for the top four. I feel they’ll make Dortmund have to work very hard for the win tonight, and the 1.52 is just too short in my opinion. I know Dortmund have a lot more talent than Freiburg, but this one is going to be closer than the odds suggest. Football betting is all about value, and the value is with the Dortmund lay here in my opinion.
