MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s a busy week at the DY Patil Stadium this week as the Indian Premier League returns on Thursday! Rajasthan Royals take on Gujarat Titans in what should be another good trading game on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Both these sides have started the tournament in great form with three wins from four games, and when you look at the Playoff places you can see this is going to be a very important fixture – even so early in the tournament.

Rajasthan will be hoping that Jos Buttler can retain his superb form right through the tournament. He has been immense so far, and after such a poor season for Rajasthan last season it’s nice to see them in the Playoff spots. They actually topped the table this week. They suffered a lot with injuries last season, and then the likes of Buttler opted not to travel for the UAE leg of the tournament so they were pretty weak. Their bowling looks stronger this year with Ashwin, Chahal and Boult too.

Gujarat would have been very disappointed to lose their 100% record last time out against Sunrisers Hyderabad – especially considering that the Sunrisers started the tournament so badly. The top three didn’t fire and that left the middle-order under pressure. I have to say I really like that Gujarat middle order with Pandya and Miller, but I also feel that they will come under a lot of pressure with who’s above them – they need more runs from Gill. Another interesting game awaits, and we should see plenty of swings in-play.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the third game at the DY Patil Stadium this week, so we are getting plenty of opportunities to get to know conditions. As I said earlier in the week, we don’t have any historical data at this ground for the IPL but we are getting a larger sample as the weeks pass. We saw a very high scoring game here on Tuesday with CSK scoring 216/4 and although RCB couldn’t chase it, they still managed 193/9. On Monday, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the 162/7 from Gujarat Titans. I would once again keep an open mind here, but it does look like you definitely need at least 175/180 to put pressure on the chasing side. If there’s dew you can increase that too.

RECOMMENDED BET:

We have two impressive teams here. It really is about two different angles here. Rajasthan need their openers to fire, while Gujarat need their middle order to fire. Obviously both would like everything to fire, but those are their strong points. I think both sides will be in the mix for the Playoffs this season, but it is Rajasthan Royals who have the better bowling in my opinion and that will be the difference. If we get a heavy dew and batting is easy like Tuesday, you’ll need creative bowlers and that’s what Rajasthan have. Their tactics batting with Ashwin was ground breaking, and I can see them being more forward thinking in this tournament..

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We’ve had a mix of results here so I can’t fully say whether batting or bowling first provides an edge. So far, whoever has played the best cricket here has won – which is what you want from a fairness point of view, but from a trading point of view you’d like a slight edge and point your trades that way! There’s a couple of angles I’m interested in here and that is getting against the Gujarat openers, then supporting their middle order when batting. I’d also be keen to support the Rajasthan openers and be against their number three and four – and I think Rajasthan will have more success when bowling. Once again here, watch out for dew as that will change the game and scoring dramatically!
