MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re into the final week of the IPL group stage, and we have a very interesting game from a betting point of view on BETDAQ Betting Exchange on Tuesday! Mumbai Indians take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede and Mumabi will be hoping to finish their campaign on a high with their final two games “at home.” Of course we have been using the same four grounds right through this IPL, but hopefully when things return to normal the Wankhede will be only used for Mumbai home games. It’s been a terrible tournament for Mumbai as they sit bottom of the table, but this is a good chance to win against a Sunrisers side with no momentum.

After putting five wins together and looking like they might reach the Playoffs, which would have been a fantastic achievement after finishing bottom of the table last season, Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone on a five game losing run! What is better – going win/loss/win/loss or doing five in a row twice? I’m in the win/loss camp! Their last two defeats have been very heavy – losing by 54 runs to KKR at the weekend and then 67 runs to RCB prior to that. Nothing has gone right, and it seems morale has dipped too. The bowling outfit have been giving away too many runs, and then with Kane Williamson is such poor form at the top of the order their innings is on the backfoot before it even starts. Williamson only managed nine against KKR at the weekend, and even worse he took up 17 balls. These days an opener just can’t do that – 6 runs off 2 balls would be a better innings.

I’m not really sure where the Sunrisers go from here. Rahul Tripathi has been good, but apart from him I’d be happy taking on the rest of the team at the moment. I know Mumbai haven’t had a good season at all, but they have won three of their last four games and it’s a good time to take on the Sunrisers.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The best trading advice for this game is to go into it with an open mind. The Wankhede was the only ground this season where we had a good data set to see what a par score was. So far this season the scores have pretty much been what you’d expect. Par is around 175 to 180, and you see a couple of scores over 200 throughout the season. It’s generally a good scoring ground, but you can get two types of wickets here. The first is your usually Wankhede wicket when 175/180 is par and the next is a close to unplayable spinning/slow wicket when you can defend 120/130. We saw two very low scores in the last two games here, and although they were chased down I would be very worried about just expecting 175ish from the team batting first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I haven’t been a fan of Mumbai this season. Their squad looked a little light to me after the auction, and their bowling has been very poor. We have made some good money taking them on this season. However, I’m happy to have a small bet on them to win today at 1.89. Sunrisers Hyderabad don’t have much going for them at the moment. Kane Williamson looks like he’s lost his confidence at the top of the order and as I said above, that just really sets the tone for the innings. An early wicket will really help the confidence of the Mumbai bowlers too, and there’s a lot going for Mumbai here. I’m happy to keep stakes low however, because Mumbai have proven that they can’t be fully trusted this season. They should get the job done here though.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The first port of call in-play here should be to see what type of wicket we are dealing with today. As I said above, we saw two very low scores in their last two games here so I wouldn’t go into this game just expecting to see a score of 170 to 190 in the first innings. Given the doubt about the wicket, I would definitely bowl first if I won the toss and it could be a slight edge getting on the bowling side. If the wicket is very tricky, the market will move a lot in your favour and you can trade out at the innings break – if we see a usually Mumbai wicket then we know a par score is 170ish and we’re still in the game chasing. The best angle to this game will be taking on Williamson at the top of the Sunrisers order, other than that I wouldn’t want to place too much confidence in this Mumbai bowling but the Sunrisers batters look very short on confidence at the moment.
