NATIONS LEAGUE: The Ultra previews Tuesday’s headline match between GERMANY v ENGLAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
GERMANY V ENGLAND
7.45pm The Nations League action continues on BETDAQ Betting Exchange on Tuesday, and there’s no doubt what is the highlight fixture today! Germany host England with Gareth Southgate’s men under immense pressure in Group A3. I said before their game against Hungary that it was basically a must win game if they wanted to top the Group and get to the Nations League Finals – instead they lost 1-0 and that has left them in a terrible position in terms of winning the Group. It’s hard to see them picking up enough points against Italy and Germany, and it looks like they will finish in 2nd and 3rd again. After making it to the Finals in the first Nations League, England are in danger of having a bad record in the Nations League!
All the focus will be on the World Cup later in the year of course, but as I said in my preview of the Hungary game – the UK media is always having a go at this England side, and a poor performance in the Nations League will see them go into that World Cup under immense pressure from the media. Probably unnecessarily too to be honest. It will be interesting to see how the England squad reacts to that defeat, and also can they live with this German side away from home. Germany started their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Italy. We saw two goals within three minutes of each other after having to wait 70 minutes! Germany won’t be unhappy with that result, and they will fancy their chances with home advantage here.
What can you say about the England performance against Hungary other than it was very disappointing. Hungary is always a tough place to go to – we all remember the crowd trouble the last time England travelled there. After that, only school kids were allowed into the game last week but even then it appeared they boo’d the England side taking a knee. It was overall just an embarrassing loss and that obviously puts a huge dent in their Nations League hopes. It’s hard to see them bouncing back here; this is clearly a more difficult game and they are going to have to create so much to challenge this German side.
Most of the feedback was that the England performance was disjointed, which has been said a lot about England over the last few years. If they put in another performance close to it, Germany will pick them apart. I can see Southgate setting up England quite negatively here, but given their situation in the Group would a draw be any good? Southgate would probably take a draw, but they will need to beat Italy and Germany at some stage to finish top – he will likely target the Wembley games and hope Italy and Germany slip up somewhere along the line.
The match odds at the time of writing currently trade; Germany 2.26, England 3.6 and the draw is 3.4. I don’t feel the England price offers any value at 3.6, and I feel that makes the Germany price a little appealing along with the draw at 3.4. I also feel this will be a very cagey game – we saw a similar game when the sides met at Euro 2020 and I can’t see much carnage here. I feel the England plan will be to grind out a result, and you could say this German side isn’t as dangerous as they once were too. Under 2.5 goals definitely makes a lot of appeal at 1.85 and that will be my best bet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Germany 1-0 win or a 0-0 draw, and under 2.5 goals covers both options.
The Ultra Says:
Two points win Under 2.5 goals at 1.85 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
