THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s Big Bash match between Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a Sydney Derby on BETDAQ Betting Exchange at the Big Bash on Sunday! Cricket Australia has had a tough week in Sydney with bad weather affecting the Test match at the SCG, and indeed the Big Bash game in Sydney that day was rained off too. Hopefully we get better weather for this clash! Sydney Sixers produced a thrilling chase on Friday to go back to the top of the table against the Melbourne Stars with only one ball to spare, but the Thunder aren’t far behind. They have put four wins together, and they are only one point behind the Sixers with a game in hand too.

As we all know, finishing in the top two is a massive advantage in the Big Bash playoff system, so this is a vital game. You’d have to say that both sides come into the game in a good place, so hopefully we get a very high quality game of cricket. Although the Big Bash has had a lot of criticism this season, you can’t fault the action on pitch over the last week or so – it has been fantastic with plenty of drama.

We should have another good game here. The Sixers are very settled side who all know their role within the side very well – that’s why they’ve made it to three finals in a row. The Thunder do come into this game in superb form though. They are going for five wins in a row, and they have been four impressive wins too.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the third game at the Sydney Showground Stadium, and we couldn’t have had two more opposite results for the Thunder here! They created a new World Record when they were bowled out for just 15 chasing only 139/9, and then they chased down the 121/6 from the Brisbane Heat in just 11.4 overs without losing a wicket! Talk about chalk and cheese. With all the rain around Sydney recently, it’s a no brainer to keep an eye on the radar here both before the game during it. This ground hasn’t been the highest scoring ground in Big Bash, and judging by the first two games I wouldn’t expect a lot of runs here. It’s likely the bowlers will be on top.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Everything points to a very close game here, and I’m not surprised that the market is struggling to pick a favourite. We might see some movement around the team news, but I’d expect both sides to start close to the 2.0 mark. The Thunder have all the momentum coming into this game, and their bowling has been very good too recently. I fully respect the Sixers because they are a top class side, but I do feel the Thunder come into this game in a very good spot. James Vince will be a huge wicket, and if the Thunder can stop him that will go a long way to winning the game.

The Edge Says:

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Although we’ve had rain in Sydney lately, I would expect a game here. Keep an eye on the radar, but I wouldn’t focus any trading strategy around it. Usually this has been a good ground for looking for trades on the bowling side, and I would imagine it will play similar here too. Both bowling sides have done well this tournament, so I really wouldn’t stay on either batting side for long. The only batting angle is possibly supporting the Thunder top order, but other than that I’d expect the bowlers to control this game.
