AUSTRALIAN OPEN WOMEN’S FINAL: MATCH POINT previews the Elena Rybakina v Aryna Sabalenka final with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
The Australian Open Women’s Final takes place in Melbourne on Saturday between Elena Rybakina v Aryna Sabalenka and it couldn’t be a closer match to predict.
My predictions for the Men’s have fared much better (including 3-0 Djokovic on Friday) but the two BETDAQ antepost picks in the Women’s both proved a little disappointing.
Particularly Iga Swiatek who was beaten in straight sets in the fourth round by eventual finalist Elena Rybakina.
I had a slightly better run from Jessica Pegula (recommended at 12.0) who made it to the quarter finals only to find two time previous winner Victoria Azarenka too good.
We’re left with a slightly unexpected but nonetheless intriguing final between Elena Rybakina (seeded 5) v Aryna Sabalenka (seeded 22) which whatever happens will see a new name on the trophy.
Sabalenka leads 3-0 in their career head to head matches but they have all gone to three sets – most recently at Wimbledon in 2021 where Rybakina seemed to run out of steam towards the end.
It’s understandable that the BETDAQ market has Sabalenka as marginal favourite given the H2H record but I think there are grounds for thinking that Rybakina might be able to cause the minor upset.
The experience and trajectory favour the Kazakhstan player who won her first Slam at Wimbledon last year beating Ons Jabeur in the final and that big stage experience might just get her over the line here against Sabalenka who has shown signs of struggling on the high pressure points before.
