The first ever meeting between the Republic of Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina will take place on Saturday afternoon. Safet Susic’s side make the trip to the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to take on Giovanni Trapattoni’s in-form Ireland team.

Since Giovanni Trapattoni has taken over, Ireland have continued to improve and climb up the FIFA world rankings, where they currently sit in 18th position. Trapattoni’s side have lost just one of their last 15 fixtures, an impressive run which has seen them qualify for the 2012 European Championships. However, those stats don’t tell the whole story, as ‘The Boys in Green’ have conceded just three goals in that time.

They face a Bosnia team whose inconsistency continues to plague them and cost them a place in Poland and Ukraine.  After holding Portugal to a 0-0 draw at home, the Bosnian’s travelled to Lisbon and capitulated in a 6-2 defeat. The ‘Golden Lillies’ have lost their last three, although they will take encouragement from a spirited defeat to Brazil last time out.

If Bosnia have any hopes of causing an upset in Dublin they will need star striker Edin Dzeko to find the form that saw Manchester City spend £27 million on the striker. Dzeko has only scored twice in Bosnia’s last 11 fixtures and that could go some way to explaining the Eastern European’s poor recent form.

Susic will need all his players to put in a great performance as they have a tough task ahead if they’re to beat a well organised Ireland squad that is full of confidence. I would advise punters to back Ireland at around 2.01 on BETDAQ.
