EARLY-BIRD TRAINERS: The same stables every year have part of their string ready to win in the first weeks of the Flat, and it’s encouraging if they have been in form over the winter. Check out Town Moor Toppers below.

THE TOWN MOOR TOPPERS

EARLY BIRDS William Haggas is going for a Lincoln double after winning the Irish version at the Curragh. George Boughey (France) and Team Gosden (UAE) are bang in form from winners abroad.

But who are the leading Lincoln-meeting trainers at Doncaster since 2012? Here are the big hitters with their current AW score and weekend probables.

Charlie Appleby has captured two Lincolns among four Doncaster hits since 2012 and is in peak form with 12 winners on AW, striking at 40%.

He has Secret State (2.05) and Bandinelli (3.15) at Kempton on Saturday, along with Bold Act in the Kentucky Derby Trial at Chelmsford.

High Honour (2.45), Majestic Pride and Striking Star (3.20) do duty as he switches to Doncaster on Sunday.

Andrew Balding has scored four at this first Town Moor meeting, including the Doncaster Mile, and his 24 AW winners have come with a 27% strike rate.

Loaded Gun (1.50), Al Marmar (2.25), Kings Lynn (3.00) and Notre Belle Bete (3.35) at Doncaster on Saturday; Kadovar (2.45) and Lahab (3.20) Sunday.

Richard Fahey 18 winners at the opening Town Moor meeting since 2012 and 15 on AW tracks this winter for a 21% strike rate.

He has Ski Jump (4.45) on Saturday; Old Smoke (3.20), Khathak (4.30) and Phoenix Beach (5.40) Sunday.

William Haggas has won the Lincoln and the Doncaster Mile among three winners getting among the bigger prizes there since 2012; he is 29% on AW (nine winners).

Look out for one or more of Al Mubhir, Brewing and Montaasib (3.35) in the Lincoln Handicap on Saturday.

Richard Hannon Since 2012, he has had 12 winners at this opening meeting, including the Lincoln Handicap, two Brocklebys, a Spring Mile and a Doncaster Mile. He’s had 12 AW winners over the winter.

He has Ehraz in the 3.00 on Saturday; 3.35 Witch Hunter and Tacarib Boy (also 4.10 with Lusail), King Sharja and Maman Joan (both 4.45), Always Fearless, God Of Thunder and Lexington Knight (5.20).

On Sunday, Great Bedwyn (2.45), Major Major and Palamon (3.20), Gisburn (3.55), Sir Rumi (4.30) and Windseeker (5.05).

I LIKE IKE

⭕ 3.30 Huntingdon Ike Sport became Neil Mulholland’s first winner in his last 30 runners which is a little concerning but the trainer looks to have found the ideal opportunity for his five-year-old to follow up quickly – and best of news he has no penalty for his Taunton success which came in a conditional riders event.

He fairly sprinted clear to beat the odds-on Nicholls trained Ioupy Collonges who had previously himself won by 10 lengths at Chepstow.

On similar ground today I think Ike Sport will be hard to beat before his 6lb rise in the weights kicks in.

SMALL FIELDS BUT EVERY CLOUD ….

⭕ 3.45 Hexham Small fields are the order of the day at Hexham where there is a match in the opener but the exception is this 10 runner handicap hurdle.

The ground is heavy which automatically throws up question marks against quite a few of these including Monaghan Boy and Petite Rhapsody who have yet to encounter ground this testing.

A chance is taken with the Jennie Candlish trained Golan Cloud who bounced back from a disappointing effort in December at Uttoxeter with a creditable fourth back at the course in January. He’s a previous course and distance winner here and handles heavy ground. The Candlish stable are also going well with three winners and three seconds from their last 12 runners.

Clearly at the age of 10 he’s not going to be improving (although he’s not the oldest here!) but a routine performance might easily be good enough in what looks like being an attritional test.

TAG HASH FOR THE CASH

⭕ 6.00pm Wolverhampton A bumper eight race card at Dunstall Park tonight with the feature class 3 coming at 6.30pm which includes a likely odds-on Betdaq Betting Exchange favourite in the appropriately named Woolhampton who bids to make it eighth time lucky. I’ll give this one a swerve, even in this soft class 3 event. I’ve seen far better class 5’s !

In the preceding 6.00 race I’ll take a chance with Hashtagmetoo who made all to win over course and distance two starts ago and followed up with a fair fourth in what looked a better race at Kempton earlier this month.

Belle Of Annandale is 0-12 overall but 0-1 on the all-weather so there are immediate concerns over the likely favourite. The Keith Dalgleish trained runner has generally been plying her trade at a higher level but I still think needs some help from the handicapper.

Starfighter was a course and distance winner in December and has been kept busy since. The booking of Oisin Murphy in an obvious positive and the combination look our biggest danger.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
