THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s IPL clash between Gujarat Titans v Mumbai Indians with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL continues on Tuesday as we return to the world’s biggest cricket stadium as Gujarat Titans take on Mumbai Indians. So far we’ve had plenty of drama at the IPL, and we’ve seen countless market swings on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. After a slow start to the tournament losing their first two games, and plenty of questions being asked, Mumbai put together three wins to move up the table. They still don’t look good enough to reach the playoffs this season, but at least they won’t be last which was embarrassing last year for a team with such rich history in the IPL.
Gujarat Titans haven’t been playing to the same level as when they were Champions last season, but they have been solid. They lost to KKR conceding five sixes off the final five balls – not really much you can do about that! Probably one of the most incredible things to happen in IPL history to be fair. And then they lost to Rajasthan Royals who have been very impressive this season – they’ll be pushing for top spot in the table once Jos Buttler stays in form, but they have now lost back-to-back games and CSK went past them at the weekend.
We should have a high quality game here. It will be interesting to see do Gujarat bring back Josh Little; the first Irishman to play in the IPL hasn’t really been a success but he did bowl well against Punjab – it’s more likely an overseas issue to be honest. David Miller and Rashid Khan are bankers, so you have to balance the side from there. Mumbai still have a lot of questions to answer for me – their three wins came against the bottom three sides in the table.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Ahmedabad is wonderful place for cricket since they have upgraded the stadium. Scoring has been very good here so far too – this is the fourth game here and so far we have had three high scoring games. All three games have been won by the side chasing, and the first inning scores have been 178/7, 204/4 and 177/7. I wouldn’t say they were chased very easily – KKR did need five sixes off five balls to win and did it after all – but I don’t think it’s a question what to do here at the toss. You have to bowl first and chase.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I know Gujarat Titans haven’t been as strong this season as last, but I was surprised to see such an even market. Gujarat are trading 1.89, and I would have them as least ten ticks shorter here against a poor Mumbai side. As I said above, I accept Mumbai did well to bounce back and put three wins together – but they came against Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and KKR – three sides who have looked very average and sit below Mumbai. They face a different level of opposition here, and their bowling simply hasn’t been good enough. We have a top class batting unit in Gujarat, and that will be the difference.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I am quite confident on Gujarat winning the game here – I believe they are a level above the Mumbai Indians, however the only reasons I staked three points instead of a max bet at five points is because I am worried about the toss bias here. Batting second has definitely been a slight edge, and if Mumbai get the chase they could take the game close – especially if Rohit Sharma fires at the top of the order. If Mumbai are batting first, I would be very happy to support Gujarat for nearly all the game – I feel backing the chasing side will offer the value here, but I wouldn’t trust this Mumbai batting line-up.
