⭕ 4.40 Newmarket (2,000 Guineas) RATINGS and FORM: Wednesday.
STALLS: Winners yesterday at Newmarket came from middle to far side, out of stalls 1, 1, 1, 2 (in the four races before the maidens), but the Guineas is a big-field play, right across the track. High numbers can break clear down the near-virgin turf of the stands rails.
PACE: So speed horses Sakheer (out of 10) and Little Big Bear (13) could well set it up for Auguste Rodin (12), who needs them to kick-start his stamina, as a colt reckoned to be ‘my best Triple Crown prospect’ (quote unquote Aidan O’Brien).
If he is thought to have stamina potential, then this mile is the toughest leg of his Guineas, Derby and St Leger hat-trick bid.
SEE HOW THEY WON: In recent years, the Doncaster Futurity, Royal Lodge and Jean-Luc Lagardere have been the key two-year-old tests for this but before that you just had to win a Dewhurst.
1: AUGUSTE RODIN won the Futurity on heavy ground. His ironically-named sire, Deep Impact, liked it firm; the dam Rhododendron won on soft and firm.
I think we can safely say that trip, ground and draw are not going to inconvenience Auguste Rodin, if others play their part.
2: CHALDEAN (drawn 3, and they want it pronounced Kal-dee-an). This son of Frankel missed the break in the Dewhurst and came with a late run; he is my pick to skirt round the middle-to-far-side group from out of the dip, where Gimcrack winner, Noble Style may not stay.
3: SILVER KNOTT Silver Knott leads the group before Chaldean swoops and tries to hang on. In my three-year-olds of 2023, I gave him a higher rating than the handicapper.
Sure to stay but, as he showed at Keeneland, he’s a fast horse on fast ground, and was five lengths behind Chaldean on soft in the Champagne Stakes.
4: LITTLE BIG BEAR Still second best on the near side, where I can’t see Sakheer lasting out. There was talk in the week of Royal Scotsman but, from 11, he is going to have to toe it with the best in the race.

⭕ 2.15 Newmarket As soon as this sprint was moved here from Nottingham, it went to the one stall and, as I’ve said, winners by stall in the first four races here yesterday were 1, 1, 1, 2.
Spring Feeling won her maiden over further at Tipperary in August and made a quick reappearance there, third in a Group 3.
She is a big, unexposed strong type and has Daniel Tudhope booked to get her some black type.
Azure Blue, Makarova and Gale Force Maya were 1-2-4 in a similar filles-and-mares Listed over CD here in October, with Azure Blue and Makarova coming from behind.
I prefer to wait for York – week after next – for Gale Force Maya but I’m happy for her to blunt the speed of her old adversaries drawn low, and allow Spring Feeling in as they meet the rising ground.

23.0 SAINT’S A LIVE HOPE
⭕ 2.50 Newmarket Even in this big-field race, six out of nine winners came from stalls 4, 4, 5 and 6.
The one stall houses outsider Saint Lawrence, third in the Palace House Stakes last year and close up in the Abernant this time.
Gis A Sub (stall 4) ran in a Group 1 (Commonwealth Cup) and a Group 2 last summer before being gelded and dropping 16lb down the ratings.

MAJESTIC WON’T MIND RAIN
⭕ 3.25 Newmarket (Suffolk Stakes) This is a rerun of the Cambridgeshire finish, in which Majestic had Dual Identity in third, Dutch Decoy seventh.
All three have been easy to back this morning, with money for Jimi Hendrix, firm-surface winner on the July Course here but soft-ground Newbury Spring Cup scorer the last day in blinkers.
However, he was unsighted behind Majestic in the Cambridgeshire and that one was a challenging fourth in the Lincoln on heavy.
Howth, who raced for Group prizes out of Ballydoyle, might have something to offer new trainer Michael Appleby, since being gelded and dropping a few pounds in the handicap.
An eyecatcher when runner-up at Chelmsford in November, and Oisin Murphy has been booked for today.

Equality has William Buick (winner for the last two years) booked by the in-form Charles Hills, whose Dark Angel grey Divine Libra is a trainer’s tip for the last (5.50), prompting an overnight gamble with the bookies.
Hills won the Palace House last year with Khaadem, when Twilight Calls was fifth (interference) and Arecibo seventh (stumbled soon after the start).
Twilight Calls goes well fresh but needs fast ground. Manaccan’s success has all come from August on.
Arecibo (stall 2) should close down his dual conqueror, front-runner Live In The Dream, now they are weighted together.
Existent on the stands side in 14 was a neck second in this last year (going good); has won at Newmarket on heavy, and has Oisin Murphy booked.
