Russia and the Czech Republic are set for only their second ever meeting as they go head-to-head in the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw for their European Championship opening Group A match.

Dick Advocaat’s Russian team carries all the familiar faces that saw them reach the semi-final of the 2008 Euro’s. Led by their 5ft 4 captain Andrei Arshavin, the Russian’s won eight of their ten qualifying games and have only lost three times in Advocaat’s 18 game spell. Russia’s success is based around a solid defence which has conceded only four goals in 14 games.

They face a Czech Republic side full of experience epitomised by captain Tomas Rosicky and vice – captain, Chelsea’s Petr Cech. The two have 175 caps between them and will be crucial for the younger players in the team if they are to progress out of their group.  The Czech’s problem has been scoring as they managed only 15 goals in their eight qualifying fixtures; however, they have won four of their last six and have built up confidence and momentum heading into Poland.

Russia are ranked 13 places higher than their Czech counterparts at number 13 in the world, this comes after impressive performances against Italy and Uruguay which stands them in good stead to progress out of Group A. Therefore, due to their recent form I would advise punters to back Russia at around 2.52 on BETDAQ as their creativity in midfield is likely to overrun the experienced but leggy Czech side.
