5-2 NAP MAKES FOUR OUT OF SIX: A 5-2 nap for Daqman yesterday completed a run of four winning naps out of six in a week with big-hitting Saturday strikes at 5-1 and 7-1 and successful Fortune Cookies. Sparks Fly was winning nap number 58 of the year.

WON 5-2 SPARKS FLY (Sunday)
WON 8-13 GRAND PROVIDENCE (Friday; evens taken on BETDAQ)
WON 9-4 MONOPOLISE (Thursday)
WON 11-8 LUCKY FIFTEEN (Tuesday)

GROUP-1 RESULTS ARE SO MIXED: What to make of the mixed bag of Group-1 results? Daqman looks at the three-year-olds today and decides tomorrow what will make up his Fortune Cookies list of all ages, revised in time for the July Meeting.

GUESS THE BEST THREE-YEAR-OLD

So good today, not so good tomorrow. No sooner had we lauded Paddington for beating Emily Upjohn in a fast time for the Eclipse than his jockey, Ryan Moore, declared that Paddington ‘wasn’t himself’.

We looked at the reprise and saw the colt carrying his head awkwardly. We looked at the ratings and saw that he’d received 7lb from a 120 mare, whose best trip is a mile-and-a-half.

We were confident that the Jean Prat yesterday would tell us more about our three-year-olds, with Chaldean, beaten by Paddington at Royal Ascot, set to give him a boost at 10-7 on.

But the Newmarket Guineas 1-2-8-10 of Chaldean, Hi Royal, Charyn and Indestructible finished 7-9-8-4 behind a French 1-2-3 at 24-1, 14-1 and 8.4-1.

The winner? A colt with the stingingly appropriate name of Good Guess, who had previously scored only at Group-3 level.

What consolation can we find? Well, as per usual, the French ground was soft at Deauville, the race time slow, and the nearest from a double-figure draw was 6th Belbek (breaking out of 12), 7th Chaldean (10), 8th Charyn (13) and 11th Meditate (11).

Winning rider, 45-year-old Stephane Pasquier, turned the screw. ‘It’s not really a surprise. The fast pace suited Good Guess and I had plenty of time to choose my position.’ Thanks for that.

▪️ Who to follow now: Fortune Cookies tomorrow.

YES, MINISTER LOOKS WELL IN

⭕ 5.55 Chepstow Some 102 rides for Archie Watson this year but a superb 25% strike rate; that’s Hollie Doyle, who must be smarting that her July mounts for the yard have finished second three times out of five.

She takes over here on Hadrians Wall, who did enough to suggest that success was imminent. The opposition in this has shown no such promise.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 2.95 Hadrians Wall

⭕ 7.55 Ripon Newbury, Newmarket, Nottingham, York, Thirsk; all winning venues for trainer Ed Walker in the last two weeks.

If this shows just how good he is at picking the right race for his horse to win, be warned that Merry Minister is his only runner between now and the 10 horses he’s left to pick from on Wednesday.

Merry Minister is unexposed. He won his novice over 7f at Thirsk three weeks back but it got him a tasty 80 rating to start handicapping here, stepped up in trip to 1m 2f.

Coverdale, 3-3 at the distance but up in class and weight, and Baryshnikov, placed three times without winning off his current high mark.

BETDAQ value 4.5 Merry Minister

SERAPHIA WIN AND PLACE..

⭕ 8.40 Chepstow Three-year-olds are gifted 12lb in this class-6 Classified over 1m 4f, not a race I’d normally choose to tangle with the layers but.. I spotted Seraphia take well to the visor at Leicester, a close third at 16-1.

Those who then punted her in to 5-2 at Yarmouth were robbed of a decent effort when she failed to get a clear run a furlong out.

Like Morris is almost always thereabouts when riding for Michael Bell: 11 winners, 15 seconds and 13 thirds suggesting a place is almost guaranteed. Betdaq value 6.8 Seraphia.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
