14 WINNERS FOLLOWING THE STARS: Daqman today updates his Fortune Cookies – 14 star winners so far – in time for the July Meeting at Newmarket, which opens on Thursday. The rating given is Daqman’s own, though often close to the official mark for each horse. Now look out as usual for previews in advance of the weekend big races.
IRISH CARVE THE PONTEFRACT CAKE: Today Daqman relies mainly on Irish raiders to earn him the cake at Pontefract but reckons a first-time handicapper could land the nap.

IRISH RAIDER A STRONG SORT
⭕ 3.20 Pontefract (1m fillies’ and mares’ Listed) With rain likely on watered ground, you may want to paddle your own canoe.
I can tell you that David O’Meara does well in this race (form figures 1021 since 2017), winners both ridden by Daniel Tudhope. But their outsider, Love Interest, has won only her maiden; always a bad sign so you need a big offer to tempt you (you could get 22.0 offers on BETDAQ this morning).
From the one stall today, Zenga was denied a clear run in a Royal Ascot handicap, her first start after wind surgery. Her family seems to act on most terrain.
Al Agaila has winning form only on AW and, before scoring at Southwell, Kingmania was all about firm going on turf.
If there’s plenty of juice in the ground, you’d need to turn to Purplepay, four times a winner on soft, including a Group 2 at Chantilly, or Dha Leath.
Purplepay should win hands down on the ratings, 107 to Dha Leath’s 93, but Gavin Cromwell’s raider is a really strong traveler who has won over a mile and over 10 furlongs, from good ground to heavy.
She looks the early bet in a trappy contest but could become a brolly big gamble if the rains came down.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.1 Dha Leath, 8.7 Zenga
EARLS PUTS HIS HEAD DOWN
⭕ 3.55 Pontefract (6f class-2 handicap) I’m inclined to have a pound on the other Gavin Cromwell raider, Earls, wearing cheekpieces for the first time, and capable on all sorts of terrain. I would kick myself if I didn’t at least cover my Dha Leath bet.
Earls is also a flexible friend; winner at 6f, 7f and 1m; in fact, scored four in a row, all at different distances, between August and October last year. One jockey said of him: ‘He really puts his head down and hits the line real good.’ BETDAQ 7.7. This morning.
SPRITZIN’S WINNING FORMULA
⭕ 4.30 Pontefract (1m 4f handicap) The old one-two-three maidens and into a handicap over a longer trip with a low mark.
It’s been a winning formula for Sir Mark Prescott, a high mark, in fact; and Spritzin looks a likely lass to set up a sequence, like so many others set on this path from Heath House stables.
The daughter of Sea The Stars, thrown in off 68 today, hasn’t been seen since the autumn when she had some much needed education behind the Pretty Polly winner, Roaring Lion, who is now rated 40lb ahead of her off 108.
Spritzin was punted as soon as books opened and was favourite hovering around my BETDAQ ‘ask’ of 4.5. I’ll declare 6 x 4.3 to win 20.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
