9-1 DAQMAN WINNER ON DAY OF PROFIT: Daqman, who landed Equality a 7-1 winner and Perotto 5-1 on Saturday, was in big-value form again yesterday with Dha Leath (WON 9-1) at Pontefract, where his nap, Spritzin, was beaten a neck at 9-2. He made 14 points profit on the day.

JULY MEETING PREVIEWS: Today Daqman digs out the source of previous winners on Saturday’s July Course card at Newmarket to help you research the meeting. It opens tomorrow.

WHERE THE WINNERS COME FROM

⭕ 3.25 Newmarket, Saturday (Superlative Stakes) Charlie Appleby has won this two-year-old test with top-notchers from his yard four times in seven years.

All had won their opening maiden on the way here, and the same applies to Great Truth, a Dubawi out of an Australia mare. He went clear at Leicester last month.

The stable’s 2021 winner of this, Native Trail, went on to win the Curragh National Stakes and then the Newmarket Dewhurst, before taking the Irish 2,000 Guineas the following Spring.

Aidan O’Brien, Superlative winner once in the decade with Gustav Klimt, may saddle the long-striding City of Troy, brother to his London Gold Cup winner and King George V (Royal Ascot) third, Bertinelli.

⭕ 4.00 Newmarket, Saturday (Bunbury Cup) The Royal Hunt Cup has provided the winner of this four times in the last five years; the odd one out had won the Buckingham Palace Handicap at the same royal meeting.

So check out this year’s Hunt Cup bidders for the £61k-to-the-winner handicap of the year at Newmarket: Awaal (3rd) and Bless Him (5th).

And the ‘Buck House’ handicap is represented by the runner-up Croupier and the sixth horse home Bopedro (6th).

I would also be interested in also-rans from that race, who were badly drawn or had no luck in running, particularly Lir Speciale and Ropey Guest.

⭕ 4.35 Newmarket, Saturday (July Cup) The Commonwealth Cup winner, second and fourth, and the Jubilee Stakes winner (twice) and 9th have gone on to take this in the decade.

Despite his antics at the start, Shaquille won the Commonwealth Cup, and his nearest rival that day, Little Big Bear, is doubtful for Saturday, after a setback at home.

Kinross (found to have been only partly shod) also had problems before finishing seventh in the Jubilee behind Khaadem. William Buick takes over the ride from Frankie Dettori.

★ FORTUNE COOKIES update: Soul Sister runs at Longchamp in Friday’s Grand Prix de Paris, and will be ridden by Kieran Shoemark.

NEED TO TRUST THE SKALLYWAG

⭕ 5.40 Lingfield today The rain that seemed to fall on the epicentre of Uttoxeter yesterday (going changed to heavy with wide margin winners) seems to have avoided most of Wednesday’s cards, so far at least, and Lingfield remains good to firm.

It’s a slightly oddly scheduled meeting – starting at 3pm – neither one thing or t’other!

I will need to wait until the last race too for a bet.

I think the handicapper must have a grudge against So Smart. The David Evans trained runner is good for Placepots but struggling for a win since his heavy ground win at Leicester last October.

I’d be more concerned about the fact he has gone UP in the weights since his second last time out at Haydock than the ground as he is versatile seemingly on any surface. He just needs to get a proper break from the handicapper IMO.

In contrast, the Richard Hannon trained Skallywag Bay has been kept on the same mark of 75 after her excellent second to Estate at Windsor last time out on tonight’s good to firm ground. She was just headed close home by the Andrew Balding trained favourite.

At the weights both Lipsink and Dalby Forest can be given squeaks on their best form but current trainer form of 0-18 and 0-15 respectively is hardly inspiring.

WHOLE IN THE SYSTEM

⭕ 7.30 Kempton No play for me in the earlier class 2 novice stakes at 7.00 but I was slightly surprised to see the early Betdaq Betting Exchange market favouring Lions Pride quite so much over Middle Earth. It looked more of a coin flip to me.

The two mile handicap at 7.30pm might just be one of the most competitive eight runner betting heats staged at the track. Find the winner? It’s hard enough to find what will go off favourite!

Always get drawn in by a two mile handicap though as the margins can be bigger to play with and several can be ruled out on stamina alone.

Wholeofthemoon is 4lb higher in the weights than he was when winning over course and distance in June but the stable (Richard Hughes) are flying and he also ran creditably on the turf last time out at Sandown suggesting he can still be competitive off this mark.

Legendary Day is continuing to run well including last time out when fourth in the Northumberland Vase. He’s run well here before over shorter trips.

KRACKING NAP

⭕ 8.10 Bath Hopefully saving the best till last or (glass half full Daqman) the cherry on the Wednesday cake with Kracking who ran a quite extraordinary race on his turf debut at Leicester last time out. He was detached at halfway but made up ground Arazzi style to win going away.

The rise in the weights might well be cancelled out by the fact he is likely to be even better over this longer trip.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
