36-16 UP FOR THE JULY FESTIVAL: Daqman takes a 36-16 winners lead into his Newmarket July Festival clash with Pricewise of the Racing Post, starting today.
ANOTHER BIG DAQMAN WEEKEND? Friday and Saturday, we have Ascot, York and Longchamp as well as the Newmarket July meeting’s special features. Don’t miss the Daqman coverage.
SAINT TOWERS ABOVE THEM..
⭕ 1.50 Newmarket (Bahrain Trophy, 1m 5f Group 3) The usual small field yet only two favourites have won in the decade.
Aidan O’Brien saddles a full house at Leopardstown but has Ryan Moore here on the July Course, where this Bahrain Trophy is worth £113,420 to the winner. The Lads could do with the money!
Tower Of London was seen as a St Leger horse when he won the Ulster Derby on his step up to 1m 5f. He was impressive and raised 10lb to the same level as Saint George.
But the Ulster Derby was a handicap and a few days later Saint George got his 109 mark by finishing second in the Group-2 Queens Vase at Royal Ascot, and his Leger pretensions and those of the winner that day, Gregory, seem much more realistic.
Tower Of London had beaten an 83 and a 90 in the Ulster Derby but Gregory came out of the Queens Vase on 111.
As a half-brother to Palace Pier – second to Baaeed over a mile – Castle Way has no right to be considered against the front two at 1m 5f but I shall hazard a guess that Charlie Appleby, who won this with Yibir in 2021, knows more than we do.
Klondike was well beaten by Gregory in the Goodwood ‘Cocked Hat’ Derby trial but those who finished behind weren’t much cop; as they used to say, ‘it’s what you beat not what beats you!’
Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.4 Saint George
MY DECISION ABOUT THE FORM
⭕ 3.00 Newmarket (6f handicap) It’s a pinstickers’ cavalry charge, with big-odds winners the norm; no favourites have scored in the decade; not a one!
The last four winners have carried 8st 6lb or less, and the lower weight levels today are where you’ll find in the favoured high draws of Executive Decision (stall 14) and Frankness (17).
Both are previous winners who were short of room, and running on, when fifth and sixth in a 5f handicap at Royal Ascot.
Quinault (making it five in a row), Washington Heights, Mill Stream, Eminency and Redemption Time finished 1-2-3-4-6 at York a few days later. I always prefer the Ascot form.
BETDAQ value 8.4 Frankness, 28 Executive Decision
NOSTRUM IS GOOD MEDICINE..
⭕ 4.45 Newmarket (1m Listed) FORTUNE COOKIE Nostrum reappears after 278 days’ absence, since his Dewhurst third behind subsequent 2,000 Guineas winner, Chaldean.
The Kingman colt looked big and scopey that day and Juddmonte are looking forward to a big second half of a season that has seemed to be slipping away from him.
He is still in the Sussex Stakes but that looks a tall order unless he can handle this field first: he should be able to; all bar Mostabshir are rated 10lb his inferior.
Last year’s winner was on 113 like Nostrum but the year before a lowly 104 rating won it. He was a shade of odds-on but would have been unbackable had we known he would score 10 strikes in a row. His name was Baaeed.
BETDAQ value 3.5 Nostrum
WHATEVER HAPPENS IT’S KARMA
⭕ 5.20 Newmarket (1m handicap) Second and third season animals dominate this, none bigger than 7-1 SP in the decade.
We have another late starter here in the hooded Glenfinnan, not seen since breaking his maiden last September.
Ryan Moore is the only jock to have persuaded Bodorgan to win a race (slow learner; carries head awkwardly).
I’ll take a chance with the grey, Good Karma, who won going away at Newbury (7f) and was down the field, but not disgraced, in the Britannia at Royal Ascot.
BETDAQ value 5.0 Good Karma
EASTERBY LOOKS A LOT HAPPIER
★ NAP OF THE DAY: After a poor Spring, Tim Easterby has struck form – just scored eight winners in five days – and has a hatful of runners in the North today.
The one that catches my eye is Happier, who looks let in lightly for his first handicap (3.25 Carlisle). She’s progressed with every race, and 9.0 on BETDAQ is too big.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
