GOING FOR A WEEK OF WINNING BETS: Daqman has had a return every day for six days since his 7-1 winning nap on Sunday, and today tackles four meetings, starting with a stats and facts survey of the Shergar Cup at Ascot.

WON 6-4 FINEST LEADER Friday
WON (w/p 2ND) MISS DOLLY ROCKER Thursday BETDAQ 9.4
WON 9-2 SAYIDH KINGDOM Wednesday
WON 1-1 TEMPER TRAP (nap) Tuesday BETDAQ 2.6
WON 10-11 LAWN RANGER Monday
WON 7-1 DARK TROOPER (nap) Sunday

TOMORROW: Four Group races at Deauville plus the second day at the Curragh. Daqman leads Pricewise 42-19.

BEWARE THE ASCOT FAVOURITES

⚠️ HEADS UP: Only six outright favourites have won in the 45 Shergar Cup races since 2012, half of them in the very first race!

Forget the fear that visiting jockeys don’t know the track: they won the majority of races, 29 out of 45, including on three of the six winning SP favourites.

⭕ 1.35 Ascot Three outright favourites/two joint. Visiting riders 5 wins.
⭕ 2.10 Ascot NO outright favourites won/one joint. Visiting riders 4.
⭕ 2.45 Ascot NO outright favourites won. Visiting riders 6.
⭕ 3.20 Ascot ONE outright favourite won/one joint. Visiting riders 4.
⭕ 3.55 Ascot ONE outright favourite won/one joint. Visiting riders 6.
⭕ 4.30 Ascot ONE outright favourite won/two joint. Visiting riders 4.

TRAINERS (with runners): Andrew Balding 4, William Haggas 4, Clive Cox 3. The Johnston stable also does well.

JOCKEYS (with rides): Hayley Turner 5, Olivier Peslier 2

⭕ 1.35 (sprint): Dream Composer has won sprints at Sandown, Goodwood, Newmarket and here at Ascot and can bounce back under Frankie Dettori.

Tis Marvellous has won this race twice and Bond Chairman is 8lb better with Intrinsic Bond over the Ascot CD two weeks back.

⭕ 2.10 (stayers): Post Impressionist won his own personal Ebor in October (York, 1m 6f, good to soft); he was only three and, given time to mature, can have another good autumn. Drying ground would suit.

⭕ 2.45 (middle distance): If only you could find a trainer in form with a jockey who is flying at the moment! Well, you can with Andrew Balding’s Scampi (Saffie Osborne), a winner at this trip at Doncaster, Epsom and York.

Back to form in the John Smith’s Cup but had been slowly away and couldn’t effect a finish. La Yakel and Pride Of Priory like this CD.

⭕ 4.30 (3yo sprint): Quinault, six in a row on top of the ground, can expect a reversal against old rival, Washington Heights, second to him twice this year, giving 9lb and 10lb, but now receiving 3lb.

It would be nice to be able to celebrate my 7-1 nap Dark Trooper with a follow-up win. Rain would help.

ASCOT VALUE ON Betdaq Betting Exchange (1pt win each)
1.35 Tis Marvellous 10.5, Dream Composer 15.0
2.10 Post Impressionist 9.4
2.45 Scampi 6.8
3.20 Perotto 4.8
3.55 Golden Move 4.8
4.30 Washington Heights 6.2, Dark Trooper 5.0

GET MILEAGE FROM ORR AND FAHEY

⭕ 2.25 Haydock STATS: 9 out of 10 in the decade to the youngsters (aged 3 and 4), with Kathab (BETDAQ 8.2) just struck winning form, and ideally drawn in 4 from a stable on 12 winners in a fortnight.

Isle Of Jura has taken a double beating from the handicapper; raised 12lb for scoring at Newbury, then a stone for the follow-up at Newmarket.

Poet Master (4.3), also a back-to-back winner, returns to the track where he strolled home five lengths the last day.

⭕ 3.00 Haydock (Rose Of Lancaster) Oisin Orr riding for Richard Fahey has been a million-dollar dream, literally, with that much prizemoney stashed away from 55 winners and 130 placed.

In Midnight Mile, they have another three-year-old of potential, but with previous experience of Group 3: won the Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket last October and got within four lengths of Oaks winner Soul Sister in the Musidora Stakes. BETDAQ 5.8.

Al Aaasy is the only one with form in better company but that was back in 2021 and his success this year and last has been at Listed level, including defeat of Phantom Flight at Newbury.

That strike was not convincing, rated 8lb superior to the length and a half runner-up who takes him on again here.

Four-in-a-row King Of Conquest was out of the frame in the Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot and cheekpieces are on now in an attempt to rekindle the sequence.

SHARTASH TO RISE LIKE A PHOENIX

⭕ 3.25 Curragh (Phoenix Sprint) STATS: Even with small fields, a high draw and, conversely, the one stall hadn’t won until Go Bears Go (out of 9) blasted his way to the line last year.

Only one horse that wasn’t a previous winner has scored over the age of four in the last 12 years. The overall tally for young winners is 34-45, aged three and four since 1978.

FORM: In the Dash here six weeks ago, Commanche Falls (drawn 2) beat Tango Flare (10) two-and-a-half lengths at levels; Tango Flare gets 3lb today and this time he has the 2 stall, with the penalised Commanche Falls coming out of 8.

Shartash (6), less than a length behind Commanche Falls in a more recent race at Newbury at this Group-3 level, is 2lb better here, getting 7lb as a three-year-old.

He seemed at Newbury to be on the way back to his form as a juvenile when he beat Blackbeard and Age of Kings in successive races. BETDAQ 4.6.

VALUE HARVEST FROM THE REAPER

⭕ 3.40 Newmarket, July Course (Sweet Solera Stakes) Those looking for a guide to the top 2yo-fillies’ races, like the May Hill, and onward to the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks, be warned that the last four winners of this race have all failed to score again.

Charlie Johnston, looking for back-to-back wins in this, as did father Mark in 2018-19, saddles Carolina Reaper, an impressive maiden winner over today’s CD, after sixth in the Chesham at Royal Ascot.

If this were a handicap, I’d be queuing up for the ‘offers’ as I’m sure she can be marked up from 88. BETDAQ 5.3.

Fallen Angel and Soprano were second and third at Sandown (7f, soft) and are given 97 and 102, the higher rating for the one a length behind the other (!)

That’s presumably because she had been third in the furlong-shorter Albany at Royal Ascot on better ground.

FORTUNA SHINES ON OISIN TODAY

⭕ 4.40 Curragh (Phoenix Stakes) STATS: Aidan O’Brien, who runs Unquestionable, has won this 17 times, among them in recent years two Guineas winners and two who subsequently took the Commonwealth Cup (see Daqman previews on Wednesday and Friday).

But the form has the colts in a heap. After running third in the Coventry, threeparts of a length ahead of Givemethebeatboys (4th), Bucanero Fuerte pipped Unquestionable a short-head in the Railway Stakes, the pair clear of His Majesty.

Fillies don’t usually win this but second and fourth in the Albany behind Porta Fortuna have both stepped up a grade and won a Group 2.

She was 4.1 on BETDAQ this morning to score for Oisin Murphy, who gave up rides in England to be in her saddle.
